shyboi Posted February 28 Posted February 28 So, I was checking that thread here earlier and saw the video of the air fryer. honestly I love fried chicken, delicious but I also like to eat healthy In theory, an air fryer would be perfect but it just seems to good to be true have you try one? are they good?
Tudors Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) Yea. Get one with a window on Amazon. They sell ones with windows I bought this one a month ago and it's great 😁 https://a.co/d/h7YCwtP Edited February 28 by Tudors 1 1

waterslide Posted February 28 Posted February 28 honestly I love mine. it’s perfect for sides like veggies and potatoes, as well as frozen proteins like breaded chicken bites or meatballs it’s basically an oven/toaster oven in a different form I also got silicon baskets so that it’s super easy to keep clean 2
Life Savers Posted February 28 Posted February 28 They're essentially toaster ovens with a fan. I have one and I'd say they're good but they won't "fry" your chicken. 1

It’s just allowed me to cut down on time/energy spent cooking actual good food; I don’t have a very large kitchen so making dinner can be stressful sometimes. Also I hate using my oven because it makes my kitchen warmer, especially in the summer. I can cook all kinds of things from salmon to turkey burgers in mine. Edited February 28 by Blue Monday 1 1
Selegend Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) Yes i use it like at least twice a week when i want to cook something that could be unhealthy but with airfyer its not. 100% worth it Edited February 28 by Selegend 2
dinorhino Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Air fryers are just small convection ovens which is not only much more energy and time efficient than an actual oven but for a lot of applications it mimics fried foods. However it does not always replace deep frying. For anything with a wet batter it will range from doing a poor job to failing the task due to how convection heating works (similarly, making pancakes in an air fryer does not work well/at all), so you will have to change your fried chicken recipe to make it compatible with an air fryer. Convection heating is basically powerful fans blowing the heat around the cavity to distribute it evenly. What traditional ovens do is the heating element is at the bottom and ambient temperature cooks the food elsewhere aside from the bottom. Ever since I got an air fryer it changed how I cook so much and it would disrupt my cooking style tremendously if I didn't have one. 1
jakeisphat Posted February 28 Posted February 28 If you like to cook, I don't think it's all that helpful, but if you can't/don't cook then I believe it is worth it. I don't really use mine because I enjoy cooking things the long way, but my friends that do not - they use it almost daily for things like wings, fries, and frozen appetizers like mozzarella sticks or onion rings. If you get one, just be good cleaning it because some people do not and the tray ends up looking disgusting. 2 1 2

Using an air fryer doesn't equate to cooking expertise at all and air fryers are not geared towards people who can't cook. It generally makes a plethora of meals more time efficient to cook as well as having to use less oil. Thinking that air fryers are only about reheating frozen food is such a bad take lol An air fryer is literally just a different type of oven. Whatever you can put in a regular oven 95% of the time can be done in an air fryer substantially faster and without using as much oil at that.
popstyle Posted February 28 Posted February 28 they are the best but i havent bought one yet that last over a year. 1

Where did I say "air fryers are geared toward people that can't cook"? Where did I say "I think air fryers are only used for reheating frozen food"? I don't use mine often because doing it the more time consuming way is relaxing to me and I enjoy it. In case you forgot the OP, that member asked to give an opinion based on our own experience. All I did was give that of mine and people I'mm close to that use one. If you use your air fryer to cook a plethora of meals then good for you.

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted February 28 ATRL Moderator Posted February 28 I've had my first one for close to 4 years now. it's the smallest size and I use it for a lot of frozen stuff and making wings. I got a bigger one recently so I can make more stuff at once. it's quick and easy to use but not really essential for my day to day 1
Blue Jeans Posted February 28 Posted February 28 So good! My favorite side is crispy thinly cut potatoes with cajun seasoning in the air fryer. 1
CottageHore Posted February 28 Posted February 28 They’re pretty good when you know not to keep the food in for too long! Nothing special but it definitely is a good option to use over an oven or microwave when reheating food that’s fried because it revitalizes the crispiness. 2 1
konaa Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) i have one of the big two basket air fryers and i use it for almost everything for my meal prep. chicken, salmon, veggies...whew, air fryers are that girl. make sure you clean it regularly though. Edited February 28 by konaa 1
