That’s even messier, not them outing him like this, was this ever public knowledge before??

This is so out of line :rip:  Why is she always so messy and weird when it comes to black people? Does she think she gets a pass because she feels she is a black woman herself?

Rolling Stone magazine asked Madonna, “Do you ever feel black?”

She said:

Oh yes, all the time. That’s a silly thing to say though, isn’t it? When I was a little girl, I wished I was black. All my girlfriends were black. I was living in Pontiac, Michigan, and I was definitely the minority in the neighborhood. White people were scarce there. All of my friends were black, and all the music I listened to was black. I was incredibly jealous of all my black girlfriends because they could have braids in their hair that stuck up everywhere. So I would go through this incredible ordeal of putting wire in my hair and braiding it so that I could make my hair stick up. I used to make cornrows and everything. But if being black is synonymous with having soul, then, yes, I feel that I am.

Some interesting reactions from people in here. So Madonna and/or her team believing (whether true or not) that Luther's death was due to AIDS is somehow "disrespectful" and offensive to black people... :shakeno:

We all know that you would not be having the same reaction if his cause of death had been mislabelled as cancer, or virtually anything else!

It just shows that there is still a very real stigma surrounding AIDS and the people in here are showing their true colours... :skull:

Perhaps she knew something that the rest of the world didn't know?

She probably did and it’s probably true but I hate that she’s not a bit more sensitive to certain things!

It reminds me when she outed her dancer in Truth or dare who told her clearly he doesn’t want to be outed by a kiss scene with another dancer, and she did it. Terrible if you asked me

She's not responsible for the names, theres literally hundreds of pictures during that segment and they got them from the AIDS project. Do you think it's Madonna sitting in Premiere making those videos?

Really? That's very interesting then...

Madonna has had her own racially insensitive moments before (e.g. using the n-word) but this isn't one of them, especially if she removed him from the tribute

Did she and/or her assistants really believe that because he was gay, he must've died from AIDS? What kind of insensitive leap of logic. :deadbanana2:

Yeap and people in this thread are doing the same too, just ignorance all around.

We know why he was there :-*

Even if she knew he had aids, she should have known he didn't die from it. How can she be this dumb?

Was he included in her infamous "MJ/Prince/Whitney/(insert black legend who died) are all gone but white woman me is still standing!" Speech?

You think Madonna sits on her ass making the backdrop?

Yes, because I'm sure she was thinking this in her mind when she gave the speech and it's not just you projecting, constructing a narrative, and twisting the meaning of her words based on not liking her in the first place. :coffee2:

The ignorant and stupid people in this thread who don’t know how to read. Madonna didn’t choose the names herself, Aids Memorial did.

Whoever did this should be fired.

Not to mention the fact that she also listed Amy Winehouse and David Bowie! :shakeno:

Yeah the comments jumping to saying how having or dying of AIDS are somehow shameful are not it.

No idea about the history of his illnesses, nor their connection, but they asked her to remove it and she did, I don't see the big shameful problem.

What? :rip: How is making things up about the cause of Luther's death and assuming that he died of AIDS because he was a closeted gay man NOT disrespectul? :deadbanana2:

It's got nothing to do with the stigma surounding AIDS. Luther sued a tabloid in the 80's for saying he had AIDS because he lost weight after a diet, was that not disrespectful according to y'all too?

And now Madonna stans are in here saying that she must have known something (:priceless:) when she didn't know Luther from a can of paint and when it's well known that he was struggling with diabetes and hypertension and he died from a stroke. The man was in a coma for months because of another stroke not long before he passed away, his three elder siblings along with his father all predeceased him due to diabetes. Very weird behavior.

I've always noticed stuff like this happens with Madonna. And a lot of the time it's with black people.

Whether this is her fault or not, she' has a messy team. She's been in this industry TOO LONG to not know better.

Tbh, as a Black man myself I do feel a bit miffed that she's quite insensitive when it comes to the African American community in general, such as the MLK Rebel Heart thing and her casual usage of the n-word on IG that one time, or countless other instances. I'm willing to admit that regarding Luther in this case, the AIDS thing was probably just an innocent mistake, although I don't appreciate it when people try to tell us Black folks what we should or shouldn't be offended by.
