BionicWooHoo Posted February 26 Posted February 26 This is not a thread about commercial success. This is specifically about songwriting. Who is more poetic? Who uses clever wordplay? Who uses sophisticated language for their lyrics. Discuss. for me personally Mariah by a longshot and it’s not even close although I do casually listen to Taylor’s bops, I find them juvenile in comparison to the songbird supreme 1
PoisonPill Posted February 26 Posted February 26 They're both great songwriters, but I'm preferable to Taylor's detailed autobiographical songwriting. 11 4
Popular Post BrandNewBrandon Posted February 26 Popular Post Posted February 26 (edited) Taylor's main problem is that she's more focused on her lyricism and not her melodies while Mariah had good lyrics and great melodies and hooks. Taylor is limited to what notes she can do because she doesn't have big vocal abilities whereas Mariah can practically do any melody in any register, which gives her more possibilities. Mariah's lyrics also incorporate much less details which makes them better. Edited February 26 by BrandNewBrandon 25 2 3

TayDuaStan Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Taylor could easily write Obsessed or AIWFCIY but Mariah could never write ATW or a song on the level of the tracks from Folklore or Evermore 4 9 4 1 26
abrahamjmr Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Mariah is a lot better, but I could see why some in here would think Taylor is better. They're both greats. 1

Popular Post perfect blue Posted February 26 Popular Post Posted February 26 Absolutely Mariah. Taylor Swift's childish, redundant, and emotionally stunted lyrics are factory made for millennial horse girls. 4 4 14 5
