Curaga Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Artists have been doing this for years . . . iTunes exclusives, Japan Edition exclusives, Target edition exclusives, etc. It has nothing to do with Taylor lol, but it is kind of annoying. I didn’t know for years that there are Target-exclusive tracks from Florence’s HBHBHB, and I have only heard them once each on YouTube Maybe one day I will find a copy that isn’t overpriced. 2

If that's the case, then this is a very strong and unique artistic statement and I will applaud her for it. However... if they are just random tracks with no meaning attached to any of the versions, then it's just a money making tool and I will look down on this whole idea. Time will tell The 5 stages of grief theory is probably wrong. However each version all have different gatefolds, inner sleeves, booklet, vinyl cover and bonus track. Other artists just swap the cover or the vinyl color (with all the other content being the same) and charge the same as Taylor. Actually her vinyl are always cheaper than anyone else's with similar content (for instance her 4xLP being $50 while Nicki Minaj selling her 3xLP for Roman Reloaded - that was on standard black vinyl - for $120). Mitsouko Posted February 23 Posted February 23 This is why her detractors don't take her seriously as an artist, but as an industry unto herself. She dices up her art for extra nickels and dimes. Literally the only reason to put different songs on different editions is to encourage fans to buy more than one, if not all. 4 1 1
ariananext Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Her fanbase is so annoying, they just found out Taylor does this? Everything is always so serious with them, it's a goddamn album buy your copy and shut up, you're going to listen to it on streaming anyway 3
mxoonlight Posted February 23 Posted February 23 15 minutes ago, Achilles. said: Yes, we had one deluxe edition of most previous albums—you only had to buy one album to get all of the bonus content, and plenty of people did not buy the standard editions and only bought that one deluxe edition. Under that model, you could get all of the material for $15. The Tortured Poets model seems likely to have four or five different versions with one unique bonus track apiece, which means you have to spent $60+ to get all of the material. It’s disingenious to act like these are the same things. Especially with even her last album, the deluxe editions nearly doubled the amount of songs to the point where she had another album’s worth of material locked behind two other versions. What version of Midnights is album of the year at that point because I promise you no one’s listened to the standard only because of how they’re devalued within her own economy post-launch. People bothering to pre-order or own vinyls in general I would not classify as casuals. She is clearly doing this for her own gain rather than the fans’, and I really don’t even care if she makes more money, charts higher as it’s irrelevant to the conversation, it’s from the fanservice perspective that she does better than any other artist but really runs the risk of becoming exhausting and losing effectiveness if it continues to be as blatant as it is. 3
Kimi Posted February 23 Posted February 23 So calling a cash grab a cash grab? Atrl not understaning why those fans are sick and tired is honestly actually shocking. Yall are something else. 1

Saint James Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Quote This is not art, this is money making. she's been doing this for a long time now, are people only just catching on? it's simple, don't buy it. these CDs clearly don't say the 'definitive' or 'ultra deluxe' edition etc so don't expect them to be that.
Solaria Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I’m tired chile every week I think there comes a moment where she’ll finally be cancelled for good and she’ll stop clogging up the charts with her 700 releases and Dua will have one chance of going No.1 with an album for once and everytime it doesnt happen I’m soooo tired either stop supporting her and dont stream and buy her **** or just shut upppp I cant keep getting excited like this every single time 9
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted February 23 ATRL Moderator Posted February 23 It’s annoying when any artist does this. I’m only sticking to my one vinyl copy and will wait for the other songs on streaming. But, people are allowed to be annoyed cause these tactics are annoying and wasteful. 9

Why is it unreasonable to expect the option to obtain the entire era’s worth of music under one singular purchase? This has been the case for the majority of her career

Josh Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Only people who don't have their own money complain about this. 1 2
rebeltwat Posted February 23 Posted February 23 People not getting that the issue is that she's STILL doing all of this despite being currently embarked on a multi-billion dollar tour and album sales that already eclipse any of the other artists you want to compare her to You don't have to circle jerk around her every single time. And this argument of "no one's forcing you to buy it" like some of you are genuinely insane 10 1

UnusualBoy Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I mean, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to but it kind of sucks for some swifties who won't be able to get the others song without downloading them illegaly, especially the ones out of US.
byzantium Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I’m confused…just don’t buy them? Find them online for free and burn your own CDs? Taylor is pretty consistent at releasing the bonus material about 6 months later anyway so it’s not like you will never have those songs. Spoiler Unlike Olivia…still waiting for the Guts bonus tracks on Spotify!!!!
Solaria Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Just now, Dephira said: So we're expecting Dua to debut #2 right behind Taylor, correct? Taylor will be doing 120K units in her 40th week probably with the way she’s mass shipping her stuff to every record store in the United States.. I feel bad for the overtime these vinyl factory employees gotta clock in

State of Grace. Posted February 23 Posted February 23 This discourse is just as annoying as her FOMO'd marketing tactics. Don't buy anything and download them illegally.
Solaria Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Anyways Tayvoodoo taygod Taylor so powerful TS11 2.5M debut first week yes god she’s unstoppable etc etc 7
BnPac Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Oh there's no version with all the songs? Hmmm I understand the complain now. Knowing Tay she would probably release another version after with all the songs in the bonus versions and add additional songs. Maybe they should wait a bit.
Lemon Posted February 23 Posted February 23 The only reason her detractors “support fans whining about this ( aka something that has existed for a looong time in the industry )” is because they know she will be moving these copies/variants. Had she didn’t have selling capacity, they wouldn’t care. We all know this, thank you. 2
