If it's all about the art, then why does she care about charts or breaking records? This is really not the "gotcha!" moment y'all want it to be. Why is it a bad thing to want to break records and do well on the charts? So what if she's doing it to further extend her dominance? Edited February 24 by The Music Industry

This "arts not the charts" shtick you're trying to defend would stick a bit better if it wasn't for the fact that Taylor's discography is massively acclaimed . Beyond the chart success, she factually has the acclaim, the impact and the accolades. You're just arguing to argue, which is not very surprising considering over 80% of your posts on this forum are about Taylor Swift, someone you don't even like. 1 1
Extremely Stable Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Me being a fan since forever not caring at all lmao. Never bought merch and stopped buying physicals after folklore. Like stop whining and just stop buying if you're upset. Taylor's not gonna stop putting out products just because you cant afford it. Some people are willing and can afford to buy those 1 1

Prodigal Self Posted February 24 Posted February 24 At the end of the day... How much money has she made and how many records has she sold? Just big and greedy...
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Spoiler The tracks will eventually be on the d site (probably a few days after release or even on release day) so it doesn't matter. Then they'll come to Spotify, hopefully it doesn't take them that long Edited February 24 by G.U.Y_Del_Rey

Mons†erMuscle™ Posted February 24 Posted February 24 In all seriousness, I give Taylor allota credit. I see what she's doing and her ability to manipulate her fans is... well that's a talent. Good on her. 1

Pop Fan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 4 hours ago, family.guy123 said: It’s a marketing tactic. But how does it work/increase the sales? This tactic gets too much backlash, some fans are even cancelling their orders because of it. Swifties are like the most loyal fandom ever. They always show up for Taylor when she releases a new album (like let's be honest, almost every single Swiftie goes put and buys a CD/vinyl copy when she releases a new album) and most Swifties are very happy to support her and even buy multiple variants. Collecting TS CDs/vinyl became a huge trend in the fandom, especially in this "Eras" era and with all the TVs. But with all of these unnecessary marketing tactics I think that the overall experience of collecting TS albums is becoming less fun and more stressful for the fans. I think that they should just put all of the variations on her website and let them choose what they want. I seriously doubt that people are buying more variants because of this tactic. If someone wants and can afford to buy multiple variants they are gonna buy them either way. But when someone doesn't have the money for or simply doesn't want all variants, they are still probably gonna preorder all of them and then choose the ones they want and cancel the preorders for the other variants. And also, if the fans knew the amount and the price of variants from the start, they'd also know how much money they need to save to buy all variants. And everyone would save so much money on shipping. The backlash is not worth it, most people have the problem with marketing strategy and tactics than with the amount of variants. I hope they see the backlash and just make it easier for everyone
enchanted0 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Another monster having mental breakdown, we need a teaser trailer for Joker 2 like right now. OT: it’s not that serious. This fanbase needs to be punished with eternal sunshine’s messy rollout and ugly variant covers 1
Ms. Togekiss Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Losers. No one is forcing them to buy any of the variants. I did not listen to You’re Losing Me until it came out, I don’t understand how these people can’t survive without listening to a song for a couple of months they can also just listen to it online it’s really not that hard. They just want something to be mad about 1 1

V$. Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Just don't buy it! I like the back covers more, I think it suits the album's theme better. 1

The only way you can vote is with your wallet but I saw people in here claiming fans are too casual if they don't buy them so. I have been streaming her songs and only bought 2 (two) albums out of the last year. Now what? Nobody forces you to afford all albums and all merches available on that website. Literally just stream and choose 1 version you like. I frankly don't know why people are acting brand new beside being new fairweather fans.

I hope they see the backlash and just make it easier for everyone Yeah I’m sorry I didn’t read all this, but marketing works. Idk I didn’t major in it, but windows of exclusivity and exploiting fomo and establishing an us vs them narrative with scooter etc etc. The list goes on and on. She’s a marketing genius as evidenced by the fact that her fans will lap up whatever she spits out. For every fan that cancels, another will buy 5 copies. There are users on this very website who have admitted to owning like 19 copies of Midnights. That’s more than 2 copies per variant. Edited February 24 by family.guy123

SoulKiwi Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Why can’t they do what I do and buy the variant they like most then wait (forever) for them to be on Spotify? Truly a nonissue Spoiler Or find them on YouTube where they’ll be for a couple of minutes before they’re deleted
Pop Fan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 2 hours ago, ThousandMiles said: who cares? no one is forcing you to buy every album, and if you do you’re weird. Yes she’s doing it for money but what’s the harm in releasing secret extra songs for fans who are willing to buy? No, she's 100% not doing this for money. She's doing this to boost her sales, to break the records and to cement her status as the biggest album seller of this century. There will be no more 1M+ pure sales debuts after Taylor, she's the only (and definetly the last) artist that still gets those massive pure sales debuts. She makes people excited to go out and buy the physical version (or versions!) of the album like they did 20-30 years ago. And she's never been more popular and in demand as she is right now. If she did 1.65M with 1989TV, shes easily surpassing 2M with a brand new album that has the most clever marketing stragety we've ever seen. Id say that even 2.5M is a possibility if everything goes as planned. 3M is probably just a pipe dream tho The money is definetly not her main reason and everyone who is a real Swiftie (or even a longtime fan) knows that. She does this cuz she loves breaking and setting new records and this is also helping with cementing her legacy. She was always open about her drive and that she cares about accolades and achievements. In Miss Americana she literallz told us that shes scared about losing her popularity and relevance in the industry because that's all she cared about and worked for since she was a child. Also...She gets more money with her tour in a single city than she'll get with selling those different variants. She also gave away 55M in bonuses a few months ago. 1
