littlebodybigheart Posted February 22 Posted February 22 how sure are we that roar/dark horse are bigger than cruel summer…? either way, lover is the bigger album 1
Taylor Sniffs Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Lover has had an amazing chart run even before CS resurgence and the tour began. Afaik, it never left the top 100 of BB200. Additionally, IFPI reports that Prism sold 2.8M in 2013 and Lover sold 3.2M in 2019. 1
dawnettakins Posted February 22 Posted February 22 The one with actually listenable songs. Meaning Lover.

byzantium Posted February 22 Posted February 22 29 minutes ago, Dialamba said: Not always. 1989 will always be bigger than midnight or lover simply because it has more hits than both combined. It also has sold more EAS units than both combined. If midnights surpasses 1989’s units then we could entertain the idea it is bigger.
unclefloprry Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Era: PRISM Singles: PRISM Album: Lover Tour: PRISM by default 1
DoubleRainbow! Posted February 22 Posted February 22 PRISM has always been considered a smash era, Lover was considered an underperformance even by swifties until 2023 2

Goaty Posted February 22 Posted February 22 It's a bit of a toss up for me. Lover moved more units and Cruel Summer is on pace to be as big a hit as Dark Horse and Roar, but those two singles were really, really big. Should Lover (and Cruel Summer) continue it's current trajectory I think it'll be convincingly the bigger album, but for now I could see it going either way. Chartmasters had Prism at about 14M EAS back in 2019 and Lover at 16.5M summer of 2023. I give Katy a little bit more of an edge due to the aforementioned juggernaut singles, but it's only a matter of time before even that won't be good enough. 1

Raspberries Posted February 22 Posted February 22 By the time Lover is 10 years old like Prism, it will have 3 Diamond songs and the album will be Diamond

byzantium Posted February 22 Posted February 22 44 minutes ago, DoubleRainbow! said: PRISM has always been considered a smash era This is certainly not true. We were having the same debates we had with other albums that underperformed compared to their predecessors with PRISM.
wastedpotential Posted February 22 Posted February 22 2 hours ago, KatyPrismSpirit said: Lover probably sold more album units but PRISM had two diamond singles and several #1 hits Lover does have four 6-7x platinum eligible hits, two (title track and CS, obviously) of which are on fast courses for diamond and another will almost certainly get there eventually (YNTCD has crazy recurrent streams on Apple and Amazon Music). Lover does only have the one #1 hit, but surely the trauma Swifties endured as we watched ME! and YNTCD get blocked back to back is worth something in this conversation We'll just have to see the impacts of the Eras Tour this year on making Cruel Summer feel like a Roar/DH sized hit in Europe, but in the Anglosphere, it already certainly is.

Cheeky Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Both albums contain some of their worst singles. Some of Lover's album tracks outstream singles from Prism so the former is definitely bigger overall.
Orsay Posted February 22 Posted February 22 In the first year of their respective releases definitely Prism. But Lover has longevity like possibly no other album I’ve seen it won’t die and is probably the bigger seller overall by now, if not yet, will be soon
UseYourIllusion2002 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Honestly during their initial runs, PRISM was bigger than Lover. I think it (initially) spent more weeks in the top 10 as well. But then Lover's 2023 revival happened which led it to spend about another 40(?) weeks in the top 10 and Cruel Summer to dominate the charts, which made Lover one of the biggest albums of the decade. OP: Lover.
