This isn’t necessarily a problem cause most of her songs are bops, but it’s interesting that people are saying this

It’s called cohesion since she is releasing a body of work.

I blame her vocals and intonation. She had a different signing style in her first album

she broke the disco ball but the gp doesn’t think her new music sounds that much different and the lukewarm response to training season is proof

GP will never be able to notice the difference between a disco pop song and a psychedelic pop song -- especially if they're from the same singer -- so it makes sense.

I'm not a big fan of Dua but there's a difference between disco and psychodelic music, but I understand for someone with basic aknowledge of music and being usted to the mainstream every song dance/pop song with retro influences it's the same thing.

All of Dua's recent music draws from 70s/80s dance-pop and the GP is a bit bored of that sound. The "psychedelic" influences also aren't nearly strong enough for the GP to notice.

And yes, Training Season is disco influenced.

training season is actually a chore, I can’t lie anymore. Houdini was very cute.

These people are dumb AF tbh :cm:

I thought they would compare her songs or something, like putting Dance The Night back to Levitating which is the easier example but seems like they were too lazy to do that and just did it for the clickbait :giraffe:

It's serving ATRLers saying 'every P!nk song sounds the same :juanny:!1!!'

Houdini sounds nothing like FN Disco to me. Very Another One Bits the Dust but dance-pop to me.

Oh please, if anything, Training Season is slightly similar to Break My Heart but that's pretty much it.

Don't Start Now & Training Season follow the same instrumental structure (build-up pre-chorus -> stripped back funky chorus).

ATRL is biased when it comes to Dua but yes, in reality Houdini and TS aren't a huge departure from her sound on FN. She only changed her hair color.

They're not identical but you can tell there wasn't any innovation like it was on her Debut > FN. She only developed the sound she already had and stayed on her lane. On top of that, the visuals aren't that exciting and she's not bringing anything new to the table like she did back in 2019-20.

All of this.

Like others have said, the GP quickly grows tired of genre trends. Disco and pop rock are out and country pop is in. of course, this is bad for artists who don’t switch their sound every era.

Posted

This happens a lot the first few eras. To the average Joe, baby, crazy, oops, stronger, overprotected, lucky, etc sounded like the same song

The fact Dua is the person I receive this critique the most is baffling to me because the most I can say about her songs sounding similar is that they’re all pop and she’s a… pop artist?

Meanwhile Taylor and Lana are the girls with the biggest streams and you’ll get a pitchfork up the ass for saying that about their same old same old music.

Just same delivery and style.

She needs to serve something else, something way different from what she's known for, like ballad (or something) in between releases.
