This is properly smashing.

 

It feels absurd that this is her first single to do this since 2008 when she's had huge moment after huge moment for the last 16 years, from the Superbowl, surprise album drop, Superbowl 2016 and Formation and Lemonade release, Renaissance.... but I feel like this single smashing is the culmination of all those years of carefully building up her brand to what it is now, transitioning from mere pop star to music legend. Now the public is ready to follow her in any sound.

It's… also another Beyoncé #1 hit 27 years into her career as a professional artist.

No one's saying it'll be "the biggest hit of the year!!", but Beyoncé getting a #1 song in this genre this deep into her career is objectively impressive, no matter how you put it.
