Taylor donates $100k to family of Kansas City parade shooting victim

This is super sweet of her to do, but like someone else said, how come she didn’t do this for Ana in Brazil?

I don’t think Taylor like… hates Brazilians or feels as though getting good press there doesn’t matter, or anything crazy like that. But what would the rationale potentially be there cause it is strange nonetheless?

A person with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak freely said Swift and her team have communicated with and donated to Benevides’s parents, and the family was invited to meet the pop singer at a show this weekend.

Taylor isn’t acting like a bich where she is saying “heyy everyone i’m donating money pls see this i’m a good person” you weirdo she is actually helping people with a crazy amount of money and she brings awareness to the situation. Sad incident but nice of Taylor.

Unfortunately I can’t read that article because it’s behind a paywall so apologies if I’m still missing the mark on this. I was referring to helping pay for the body to be moved, because iirc that was crowd sourced.

Then, I remember there were claims that Taylor had reached out to the family, only for the family to confirm that wasn’t true: https://f5.folha.uol.com.br/musica/2023/11/familia-de-ana-benevides-nega-contato-de-taylor-swift-e-fake.shtml

To which Taylor then met them after this. Was there a reason why there was such a delay versus this situation? Genuinely wondering if there was some legal issue or something (not that that’s… much better idk) but I’ve seen quite a few people mention the double standard on here and Reddit.

In that situation, because it was her own concert rather than a senseless act of violence, there were legal issues that delayed things, yes. The company that booked and promoted the concert, and that was responsible for the conditions of the venue that contributed to the fan passing away, had to step in and take some kind of accountability. That’s why they eventually ended up making a statement first. There were also active police investigations, which I imagine drew things out a bit because of lawyer advice and everything that comes with that. All we really know in the end is that even amidst those factors and conditions, Taylor did reach out and donate to the family sometime before November 25th (the incident occurring on the 17th). We don’t actually know how soon after, we don’t know how much - but we do know that the family also attended the final concert on the 26th when invited, so we can perhaps guess that they found her actions sufficiently respectful of their daughter and her memory. If I recall, the one family member who denied contact at one point was a cousin who wasn’t actually with the rest of the family anymore by the time she made that statement, having been with them only briefly to help sort out the issue of retrieving remains. In the end I don’t think there’s any double standard here because there is a world of difference in the two situations.
