Taylor dragged for album announcement; Gaga not. Why?

Idk the VMAs and the Grammys are just not the same. Plus Gaga's was just her 3rd album and she hadn't released one in years

No pop girl needs to be dragged for announcing an album at what realistically amounts to a promotional appearance, given the televised nature of these programs. People acting like the Grammy Awards are some extra-classy event where everyone needs to be prom and proper the whole time are just as misguided as anyone who would take issue with Gaga’s brilliantly-timed announcement.

I think people don’t care if rising stars or newly-famous people toot their own horn, but I think there’s an expectation for benchmark artists to feign humility.

I personally don’t think Taylor did anything wrong, but to make an analogy, it’s kinda like if the star of your school (valedictorian, class president, head cheerleader) went up to give a graduation speech and started talking about how excited they are to go to Harvard in the fall. You’d probably be like “ok we get it, you’re perfect…”

EDIT: And to add to this, I don’t think it helped that it came off as too premeditated/prepared. She changed her social media beforehand and was obviously trying to tie the announcement to her 13th Grammy win. I think it’s great for the fans, but if I was an industry peer, I’d probably roll my eyes.

There was something genuine about Gaga's announcement after sweeping the entire night thanks to the fans.

Gaga's next album was eagerly anticipated, everyone was waiting for what she was going to do next and it was a huge night for her. The meat dress, Cher giving her the big award (she acknowledged her, unlike others) and she sang a bit of her next single live (she can sing live, unlike others).  It was hype and a smart and theatrical way to do it. Who gets hyped for the millionth mid Taylor album other than her terminally online minions?

The internet was somehow more bearable in 2010 and not everyone overthought everything in order to tear down a woman at the top of her game. The jealousy and bitterness is off the charts.

I just brought this up in another thread and didn't know this post existed.

Absolute double standards - there was ZERO backlash to Gaga doing those things at the VMAs.

People just looking for any reason to hate Taylor.

Yall hateful ******* going to have a hard time when gaga releases her next studio album and movie this year 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

it helps that Gaga announced BTW right at the perfect sweet spot of her popularity and impact. like it can literally be argued that Gaga at the 2010 VMAs was the peak moment of her having the entire industry and pop culture in the palm of her hand. anything she did in that moment was gonna be eaten up regardless.

as opposed to Taylor who has reached a near unprecedented level of cultural ubiquity that borders on oppressive at this point. it’s getting to a point of overexposure with the GP. there was always gonna be an inevitable fatigue for her record-breaking album releases every 6 months for anyone who’s not a Swiftie.

The "Born This Way" announcement served as a lifeline for suicidal gays that would not otherwise have made it until the actual release of the album. Thank you Gaga!

Because Gaga’s was on MTV for an award show notorious for making the biggest spectacle and grabbing the most headlines the next morning.

Gaga seemed more aithentic back then, Taylor seens too much like a pick me girl

Recency bias. Something no one seems to comprehend on this site and just assume that because people aren't harping on something that happened 14 years ago means that it didn't happen.

Because people know that the album will be another case of Midnights, a total white mediocrity that will succeed in charts and awards with white privilege and Swifties' streaming farms.

I don’t think it’s THAT big of a deal but I won’t lie and say I don’t see the issue.

The Grammys is kind of like NIGHT of music to AWARD music of the year.  The VMAs at its highest and most iconic is simply a fun and amazing night celebrating pop culture. I kinda would be irritated if this is the night I won a Grammy and it’s overshadowed by this lady releasing her 75th album a year.

gheys didn't have internet when gaga made that announcement

the moment yoll stop caring about what others have to say, the world will be a better place.

People will always have something to complain about her (or anyone in the spotlight for that matter). C'est la vie :michael:

One is the Grammys, the other is the VMAs.

However they’re both pretty much the same thing nowadays so who cares. :johnald:

People are overreacting to this. At the same time, I like Taylor but I could use a break from her presence in the popular culture- not to mention the name of her new album is pretty cringe.

Some would argue about quality over quantity and Taylor certainly is a good argument for that.

Some can choose to do so if they wish, sure. Some would say they’re happy to get both. There’s no objectivity in music, only artists you love and artists you hate typically for no reason other than vibes or the internet said you had to.

Not you specifically, I’m guilty of the same but trying to make this an issue of quality is just always going to be a failed argument. There’s no way to objectively say wether a record is good or if it’s ****, it’s all down to who’s listening.

Gaga doesn’t release an album every two weeks

Was she able to make a good one since 2011?

Because it's the GRAMMYS. Taylor announced Midnights at the VMAs just like Gaga and no one got mad.

Chromatica is good. Joanne, too.

The only reason is that Taylor's going to continue to dominate the charts and OTHs hate to see it. :coffee2:
