Taylor dragged for album announcement; Gaga not. Why?

I am sorry but the album title sounds like it was written by a group of depressed theater students.

Nobody cares about a Gaga album (x234234).

Didn't she only sell so high that era because of that 99 cent Amazon deal? Taylor's success is organic and everyone has an opinion on everything she does nn so yeah :thing:

Dua Lipa also performed an unreleased song at the Grammys. Kacey Musgraves announced a new album and had commercials airing promoting it. Sza also got a 2nd performance/commercial for her new song Saturn. None of them are being dragged for announcing new projects at the grammys. Again, it's just selective outrage towards Taylor as usual. :rip:

Because Gaga is not inescapable and overexposed at the moment?

If Gaga were to do this today, no one would care because she is not relevant in music in 2024.  The point still stands!! :cm:

What a tangential point with respect to the SUBJECT OF THIS THREAD. Good thing you got that off your chest though :clap3:

Must have been eating you up

VMAs are known as a fan-voted and fan-driven event, while the Grammys are a professional industry event filled with your fellow artist peers.

There was technically nothing wrong with Taylor announcing her album, but it just felt like an odd place to do it. I don't think I've ever seen an artist announce their music live at the Grammys before, but it's a commonplace thing to do at the VMAs.

Pretty much this. The audience at the Grammy's aren't your fans or the general public, but your peers, colleagues and people working in the entertainment industry. While her message was obviously not meant for that audience but the viewing audiences at home, it can definitely read as a little tone deaf to be promoting your new album during your acceptance speech, especially when you absolutely don't need the promo as you can break the internet with one tweet and it can take the spotlight away from other winners.

But it's whatever, even as an OTH this is like the least offensive thing during the 2024 Grammy's lmao.

Omg Gaga even sang during her album announcement speech! Did she clear it with the awarding ceremony that it was ok for her to promote her new song there in that manner?  I assume she received an even stronger backlash back then!

Imagine Taylor singing during the speech. The backlash would have been even worse:penguin:

She didn't say when it would be announced and GO BUY IT NOW and it was during a fan-voted event. At the Grammys, Taylor treated her peers like her fans.

Besides, most people are dragging Taylor for the Celine Dion thing. The woman who stood up and SANG Celine's song when Celine came out ignored her directly on stage only shows you all this singing and standing up during performances is only to show how supportive Taylor is, it's part of her image which in turn basically means Taylor CONTROLS the opinions of millions of people for her OWN benefits which is the exact description of narcissism.

Tbh the only thing that Taylor made me mad about this decade was the Time POTY interview which felt so out of place with all that's going on in the world right now, felt weird seeing her ranting about her haters and personal life dramas which I thought she got over since the folklore era. I think if it had been a Rolling Stone or Billboard interview I wouldn't mind at all but since it's TIME, I thought there'd be more important issues to talk about. I thought she was already mature than that but I guess not.

Because she is creatively bankrupt (see Chromatica, Joanne & Artpop) & she knows that she doesn’t have the demand (her last effort debuting with less than 300k units with bundles) so why bother making music when no one wants it. Sell makeup (wait, she can’t even do that :deadbanana4:).

Taylor can make great albums & has the demand so of course she’ll release as many albums as she can in her prime, what else is she supposed to do, it’s her literal job.

I'm sure if I dug through 13 year old internet posts I could find a couple of haters mad at Gagas announcement too :snowball:

Are you comparing commercials to an acceptance speech? Lol

Taylor comes off as pretentious whereas Gaga felt genuine.

There's at least as much experimentation and variety showcased in those 3 albums than Swift has showcased in her career so I don't know where you're getting creativy bankrupt from.

the girl needs to take a break in between, enter a new, creative headspace before churning out another album just for the sake of it. releasing lil quick albums like singles is not it… MIDnights was MID, the tv’s sound botched which is why people prefer to stream the original songs instead.. etc etc. She’s just capitalising on her hype atm and i think it might backfire.
