Johnny Jacobs Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Rihanna. She literally did every genre and smashed. The chameleon of music 2 1
4th Time Around Posted February 8 Posted February 8 She is definitely up there with people like Gaga, I just wish her talent and her versatility translated into quality albums more often. Plastic Hearts is the only album of hers that I enjoy as an overall project, even if I like plenty of individual songs from her other eras. 1
suburbannature Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Of the newer girls, yes. Madonna, Mariah, Bey have all tackled nearly every genre successfully. 1
Kayseri Mantisi Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Yes, the replies here are NOT surprising — she is incomparably way more versatile than Lady Gaga (she's not even on the same league) 1 1 5 1 10
Auburn Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Yes, her and Rihanna come to mind when I think of versatility. Gaga is fine but her ugly broadway voice now is not very versatile. 2 1 1 5
swissman Posted February 8 Posted February 8 It depends what exactly you mean by versatility. If you mean "she has done x amount of genres" then perhaps. She is certainly one of the most versatile considering she has done several different genres, but I don't think she would be the most versatile considering the likes of Madonna and Beyoncé have had longer careers with often greater shifts between genres. If you mean "she can sing in x amount of styles", I don't think she qualifies, as her vocal performance predominantly remains the same with slight adjustments to fit the mood. An example of this type of versatile artist is Gaga who drastically changes not only the tone of her voice but her phrasing and approach when taking on a new style. She really embodies the genre vs. compliments it. But Miley surely is very versatile and not afraid to be so, which is commendable and amazing that she can always pull it off. 5
4th Time Around Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) 8 minutes ago, Illuminati said: No The thing about Taylor Swift though is that is has never really felt like she reinvents herself in big ways. Her music was always about clever pop songwriting, it just had a country backdrop at the start. Just like Folklore is not actually a folk album, but a pop album that makes use of a folk aesthetic. Miley is somebody who is truly versatile, she does not just dabble in other sounds like Taylor does but actually dives into them in a way that radically changes her sound from album to album. Raphy23 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 One of yes. But she's also just so talented and f**in incredible. 3
mons†er Posted February 8 Posted February 8 she's one of them but only one of 3 of the current generation who has versatility. Miley, Ariana and Victoria Monet are the most versatile artists of todays generation.
sweetkiss Posted February 8 Posted February 8 to me whatever miley sings sounds country so versatility for me would be rihanna (she actually changes the way she sings each song), doja cat and madonna 1 1
Zefierce Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Unlike Gaga, it always feels like she’s cosplaying. If I didn’t know her as Hannah Montana/her embarrassing Bangerz era self I might take her more seriously. 1 6
Selegend Posted February 8 Posted February 8 she is very versatile and probably one of the most THE MOST tho? with rihanna & gaga. especially gaga.. idk.. would have to think more about it. and since i noticed this will be a topic for conversation in this thread i think taylor swift is also one of the most versatile artists out there u can't make me not think that someone that goes from Reputation to Folklore is not versatile. u simply can't it's just the fact that she makes subtle and slowly changes but she's pretty much constantly changing and the formula seems to be working tbh... it's better this way cuz u don't alienate ur stanbase u make the change u need to make, but when u do it slowly ur fanbase goes with u. 1
