Khal Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Nope. I think that's going to Oppenheimer. And even if it didn't, Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, KoTFM, all deserve it ahead of Barbie.

Ryusei Posted January 24 Posted January 24 No and it was never going to. I love the movie but that‘s just reality. It‘s maybe #5 or 6 at this point.
Feanor Posted January 24 Posted January 24 No, nothing is dethroning Oppenheimer now. It's one of those rare acclaimed & successful blockbusters that are undeniable in Best Picture à la Titanic or LOTR.

My only wish was the ending was a bit more conclusive. Sandra Huller is my bet for best actress that's for sure. Also the dog should be nominated for Best Supporting tbh, I didn't even know dogs can do that. 2
Raptus Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) No. Most academy voters are old people. Like old old (80-90 years) . Oppenheimer is winninng. And tbh Barbie don't deserve to win. Past lives is the best nominated movie this year. Edited January 24 by Raptus
Revolution Posted January 24 Posted January 24 MEN (aka trash) will never allow this so no they already told greta and margot to stay in their place
ICLDXU4HS Posted January 24 Posted January 24 His statement and those tweets are beyond lame and cringe.
PennywiseTheClown Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It's a popular film, not a universally acclaimed film. With a 6.9 average on IMDB you cannot claim Barbie deserves to win best picture. Oppenheimer remains the superior film in every aspect, so it should win. People tend to forget The Oscars isn't a popularity contest

But I haven't watched Anatomy of the Fall yet, so I'll watch that first and see if it can top Past Lives Past Lives couldn’t even get a Director or Acting nomination, it’s not even Top 5 in the race for Best Picture Oppenheimer will win. Robbie should’ve been nominated over Bening but comedy performances always struggle in Lead, it’s easier in supporting.

And Greta by nominating…another female director instead? Y’all just love to complain about men, despite 99% of ppl here being men themselves. Embarrassing. Margot and Greta are blonde white women, so will be just fine and nominated again soon. 3
vale9001 Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 (edited) Barbie has 8 nominations and didn't direct itself. Is a movie that worked so well because of a specific artist vision and became the biggest movie ever directed by a woman. Like Oppenheimer, like Poor things. They are the most nominated movies and they have a directing nominee. You shouldn't just consider everything male circles of critics and cinephiles decide for you every single year months before the cerimony as a fact. For example Jonathan glazer deserved to be nominated at every cost for movie It's Just One of the many festival movies of the same kind released this year. Barbie deserved a best director nominee exactly like Oppenheimer and Poor things. Over Glazer to Say the First. For the vision and for how was groundbreaking in the industry. We can both celebrate this very important Moment in the industry with Gerwig and an indipendent director like Triet in the same way they celebrated as always the male directors of the biggest movie (Nolan) and an indipendent male director (Glazer). We can have both. You don't need to embrace ther narrative you have to choose sides or "be happy for the less you got cause at least you got" Edited January 24 by vale9001
Scandalous Posted January 24 Posted January 24 NO but it would at least be better than that boring mess Floppenheimer. neither of those movies are even top 5 of the best ones in BP (anatomy should win) 1

Ivan_brit Posted January 24 Posted January 24 No I hope the entire cast skip the show TBH, Ryan will refuse to perfom + it was predictable he skips almost all red carpets Maybe America & Billie should be the only ones that should attend

They should have shut out Barbie from the acting categories entirely and would have spared themselves all this bitching.
Blue Monday Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Barbie is not winning BP, Oppenheimer is the frontrunner right now and that's not going to change unless we get some unforeseen shakeup with BAFTA
ugo Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I mean Martin Scorsese made the same movie 12 times and got a nomination. The oscars are such a joke
