poll Song and Record of the Year: 2018

Adele easily defended her wins for “Hello” in our 2017 poll. She joins Taylor Swift in winning both polls twice. 
 

In 2018, the blue ribbon panel spared us the possibility of an Ed Sheeran sweep, but ended up clearing the path for a Bruno Mars sweep. I am thinking of a gif of two trash cans racing. Nobody here thought very highly of last year’s lineups, and I have to say I might find this batch even less appealing. Vote now.

The SOTY list is tragic  I guess I'll go with the Grammys and say That's What I Like. Bruno was kinda overhated for that album imo.

 

ROTY's not bad. I'll vote Humble, but Redbone is a very close second. 24K Magic is great too.

LWYMMD ROTY be fr. That song wouldn’t even deserve a nomination in best comedy categories. 
 

Definitely Redbone deserved. The fact he lost with that gem and then won the next year with that HORRID noise of a song TIA is hilarious.

Damn I didn’t realise how weak that year was  Bruno Mars for both I guess, I like both of his songs

2018's lineup now THAT is poor. there had to be better hits that year no? seeing this is what they pulled they might as well have let Ed sweep at least it would make sense.

 

2016-18 era was big for Bruno but even in the US and with the streaming era, it wasnt his biggest and was definetly not the most acclaimed album of that release period. I remember I was like oh purr that he won all the awards until I realized they gave him the wins to avoid giving hip-hop its dues. Ngl Jay's album didnt make that much noise and so 8 noms felt like an overkill but the carters are very much critically acclaimed and loved by the academy so not surprised.

 

Yet Kendrick! He deserved nearly all those major category award hands down! a crime he's been snubbed like 4 times for AOTY and this year especially hurt cause he had all the factors for a great Grammy victory that night.

 

For ROTY I went with "redbone" and it should have been Gambino's sole win for ROTY too- This Is America is kinda lackluster. Humble was a close pick, but I went with my gut and Humble winning would be just as right.

 

SOTY i gave to Bruno. It wasnt the ideal pick, but the list of nominees was abysmal already, so I had to pick the least offensive one. All of them are either annoying, irrelevant or their strengths done lie in their lyrics. "That's What I Like" is cute and Bruno has a good pen for pop hits, so he can keep this one.
