yes.

that she can make an album that actually stands the test of time.

and that she can have a stadium tour.

but i don’t think she can actually prove that, so in that sense then i guess she’s hit the ceiling :)

I can’t count on much but I can always count on your miserable hating a** self being one of the very first people to be in an Ariana Grande related thread on this website.

OT: No, she’s proven to be an extremely consistent hitmaker and has been anointed by just about every legend we have left, including Aretha Franklin (who was not fond of any old person). As a fan, I would like to see a conceptual album from her in the vein of sweetener, but where she fully throws caution to the wind and just starts experimenting.

@Blue Monday my “?” comment was in relation to OP saying Ariana is the first artist ever to have back-to-back smash eras. Not denying that she has continuously smashed.

There's no such a thing as an established artist having to prove themselves. That's usually within the first few albums or until they score a massive era (see GGGB, TD, and in Ariana's case My Everything)

A solid decade of numerous #1’s, the first artist that’s managed real, genuine consecutive back to back smash eras with real genuine hits and not fizzling out like almost every MPG the past 15 yrs (whether or not some managed a comeback), does Ari have anything left to prove? If she quit music would she have had anything left she should have done to make an impact or have had more success?

She's established as music artist, maybe doing something artistically out of her comfort zone and taking a risk, we'll see with 'Wicked'.

Yes. She's yet to have an album serve true blockbuster longevity, do a stadium tour, or have a magnum opus critically. And the string of #1s are nice, but none of them have had legs since 7 rings.

I’ve genuinely never liked a full album from her

This is so weird to me. Something like Positions is such a groove. Y'all never slammed your taint to Test Drive?

Went to the west side with your shorty? Redesigned your brain to make some new habits?

Thank U, Next is a such tight, cohesive package. You never orbited around a lover like gravity?

Neck-rolled with the attitude, lips poutin'? Saw someone's potential without seeing credentials?

She's often such an (intentionally) bad pop star with other expects of being a traditional commercial artist (the visuals, paying the pop star game, etc.) but the music?

It's so wild that such a tiny 5'2 person could have so much understanding of melody, musicality, and love for music in her. :jonny6:

Not really, but kinda?

Shes never had a HUGE blockbuster album like almost all of her peers (thank u next could’ve been that but its album units are weak because she cut the era so short) which would be nice, but she has a consistency that no other pop girl bar Taylor and Rihanna has had post-2000.

I also think she could kinda use a bonafide timeless smash to be remembered 50 years from now. Her biggest hits have pretty meh recurrent streams for their huge peaks, and none of them really take advantage of a timeless sound or her voice. I’m not saying it has to be a ballad, but her upbeat ones seem to be very “of their time”. For upbeat classics: Gaga has Bad Romance & Just Dance (Born This Way as a cult classic among the gays), Katy has like all the TD singles + IKAG and HNC, Taylor has Shake It Off/Love Story/YBWM/Cruel Summer(?), etc. Olivia even has good 4 u which feels like it’ll be bigger in 20 years than any Ariana song

For those saying she doesn’t have a magnum opus, I disagree. I truly think thank u, next is her artistic peak and among the best of any albums. It’s the perfect encapsulation of self destructive behaviors and trying to distract your mind with vices from your mental health issues

So, I don’t think she really has anything she HAS to prove since her consistency is so strong, but if she could get at least one of the above then she’d really be set

Vocally, no.

She’s like one of the closest we have (along with Beyonce) to the 90s vocal trinity.

But, I feel like she’s yet to have her magnum opus, her arts not for the charts kind of album.

Charts wise no.

Acclaim wise she still has alot of potential and her magnum opus is yet to arrive.

Also it would be cute if she did a real world tour with multiple stadium dates. I'm sure she has the demand.. I mean even Katy Perry did that with her Prismatic World Tour

Acclaim what ? As if thank u next wasn’t one of the most acclaimed 2019 albums :rip:
The only thing missing is a stadium tour.

I’m a huge Ari stan, but even I can say she still has things left to prove. While she has had insanneee commercial success, literally the most success out of any other female artist from her generation. Including Billie, Dua, and mostly everyone else other than Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, and Ed Sheeran.

Ariana still hasn’t achieved the critical/universal acclaim that people like Beyoncé and Taylor have. Touring wise, she hasn’t been on enough to prove she’s truly a touring force. Other than breaking numerous chart records, she hasn’t really had a magnum opus yet, or a moment where she changed the industry for forever.

But I only say all of this because I’m looking FORWARD to what she’s gonna show us. The reason why she’s so huge, and shows the most potential out of all the pop girls from her generation, is that she’s the most versatile vocally. She has a great ear. She’s beyonddd talented. Her music is amazing. That’s why she’s been here for so long. So yeah, she has things to prove, but she’s on her way to becoming the legend she’s meant to be.

I’d add Rihanna to that trinity as well. When Taylor, Bey or Rih are missing from the scene they are really missed. Even as a person not into Taylor’s music when her comeback is approaching (1989 to Reputation) it’s palpable. Beyhydration before ST, the R8 and now R9 countdowns.

Personally, I don’t see that with Ariana’s current return, it’s lukewarm at best. She still has quite a lot to prove in my honest opinion.

This all makes so much sense. I was gonna include Rihanna too, but wasn’t too sure, given that she’s so much like Ari when it comes to having massive chart success but not as much critical acclaim as her peers. But Rihanna is definitely within the trinity too, I mean the wait for her coming back is still STRONG.

Yeah, I feel Ariana has the potential to really carve a lane for soooo many artists, but I feel she’s too scared artistically. She’s hungry, but not as hungry as Bey and Tay. And due to how versatile she is, I feel she still hasn’t been able to fully step into her starpower the way people like Bey, Tay, and Rih have.

I think she still has much to prove too, she just needs to actually start taking RISKS and being less fearful of making artistic decisions that won’t grant her as much chart success. :deadbanana2:
