Orsay Posted January 16 Posted January 16 In some ways I agree. The whole “ironic” homophobia schtick for example is one of the worse things we’ve done as a community at the same time I think it’s disingenuous and ill fated to support someone SOLELY based on the marginalized group they identify with. If the material is there and you enjoy it, support it, that simple. And we should definitely all be interested in seeking out LGBT artists doing their thing to uplift/support 40 minutes ago, Damien M said: Yt gays dislike/are indifferent towards Lil Nas X bc they can’t relate to him. It’s absolutely a race thing, they just can’t see it. Meanwhile Troye Sivan makes serviceable pop songs (not great, just ok) and they fawn over him. see where the disconnect lies? Troye has never come close to Lil Nas’ mainstream success though. 1

Like that’s being completely left out of most of these comments Edited January 16 by Orsay 1
John Slayne Posted January 16 Posted January 16 actually sad to see how many people here proudly and with their whole chests say that other gay people are not 'their own' where is the community? it's not just about mainstream artists, there's also thousands of queer artists working locally and struggling because y'all act too grand to support them. i'm not here to shame anyone for liking mainstream pop culture (i do too), but if you've never been to your local drag show or open mic night please don't complain about capitalism and gentrification when all you spend your money on is taylor swift tour tickets and can't even name 2 local artists from your town. i get why OP's post rubbed people the wrong way but also the fact that so many of you immediately got defensive is very telling. 5 1

Not everything has to have some deep meaning. Its just because i dont like their music

Lil Nas X is bigger than Troye has ever been. He has much bigger hits. This is one case where race isn’t the issue. X is even more gay than Troye so I don’t see where you’re coming from.
byzantium Posted January 16 Posted January 16 While I think you should be allowed to like what you like, I also think some/many gays should reflect on their internalized homophobia. 1

Dolce Vita Posted January 16 Posted January 16 um the sexual orientation of an artist shouldn't matter like at all...? just support who/what you like babes
wehan6 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 the way every post in that lil nas thread is celebrating his downfall is WEIRD him releasing mediocre music and being a little annoying is not enough reason to hate him that much 3

305 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 What kind of dumbass thread? And to position Lil Nausea X as the messiah of gays that boy has ZERO talent and I couldn't be happier that his new era is tanking You don't support something JUST because it is "the same" as you. You support business/entertainers/industries because you LIKE them and you ENJOY them. Anything other than that is just being a fraud 2
Dante Silva Posted January 16 Posted January 16 It’s in gay DNA to support straight pop girls but not straight pop males. In the aftermath of Britney’s book, It’s particularly illogical to see gays supporting the current Justin Timberlake rollout. That really is a betrayal.
bjorn Posted January 16 Posted January 16 So just because we share the same sexuality we need to celebrate and support trash? I’m sorry but did we support straight popstars music when they released trash? No. Their projects flopped too.
Big Bad Wolf Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) 3 hours ago, Seahorse said: Supporting straight women like Ariana Grande over Lil Nas X. Supporting straight OnlyFans models over gay ones. Supporting straight actors over the few openly gay ones. I’m so tired. Y’all really letting our own struggle because you worship straight people. For one, gay people are still under represented in mainstream media. With that said, we're also in this space in our society where people are not feeling the need to publicly "come out" or state their preferences or sexual interests. I feel like there's a lot of fluidity around. Regarding music I don't think American labels yet know how to market a huge gay male popstar. But I think shaming people for something like this is so dumb. When you realize being gay doesn't have to be your entire personality it gets better dear. Edited January 16 by Big Bad Wolf
ohwow Posted January 16 Posted January 16 a lot of gays have internalized homophobia that they havent deconstructed so they will cosplay as "mean girls" or "baddies" and tear other gays down to feel better about themselves lil nas x still releases bad music tho 1
Chiidish Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Gays could never unite ever again. Even when we are all in conversion therapy camps in a few years they’ll be be infighting. Cooked demographic To be fair it’s not the only marginalized community that is failing to close ranks and unite in the waves of imminent discrimination to come just consider freedom and happiness for communities a lost cause. There are no communities only individualism now.

Nobody would give a rats ass if Shawn/Charlie Puth/Ed Sheeran tanked beyond a few little quips in the Charts section. They hate Nas because he's a.) doing what every little gay boy on this forum wants to do -- be a superstar and look flawless doing it and b.) a sissy and PROUD of it. I may not care for him either way but to act like he's recieving a justifiable amount of backlash is stupid. You have Nicki foaming at the mouth every day about her importance in the zeitgeist but the minute LNX declares "yeah, I have some smash hits and suck my dick" everyone loses their marbles. Soooooo silly. 2

PopKills Posted January 17 Posted January 17 yes, and is much more queer than whatever Lil Nas X released
Alldeezy Posted January 17 Posted January 17 well as a straight woman its normal for me to stan straight men but kinda stan bi/gay females because well 1
JoeAg Posted January 17 Posted January 17 anyway stan Perfume Genius and stream his iconic baroque pop ode to that same grindr hookup we’ve ALL had where it’s been a super closeted guy hooking up with us and he’s turned out to be chill Jason today!
Monday Night Messiah Posted January 17 Posted January 17 This is just what I noticed. Most people are into gay artists that are gay, but not flamboyantly gay. I think it's just preference. You see people like Pablo Alboran and he still has a legion of fans - both gay and straight. Because he came out as gay but didn't start wearing whatever Sam Smith is wearing now. It seems like it's a pattern whenever someone comes out, they just go all out. And people tend to move on because they no longer identify with their brand or the type of music they release.
