Seahorse Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Supporting straight women like Ariana Grande over Lil Nas X. Supporting straight OnlyFans models over gay ones. Supporting straight actors over the few openly gay ones. I’m so tired. Y’all really letting our own struggle because you worship straight people. 4 7 6 24
Mandalore Posted January 16 Posted January 16 "our own" "Support" who/what you like. Life is too short to try to live it as some sort social commentary. Especially for stuff like entertainment, be serious. 8 5 1 1
Rev8 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 That's preference so I understand it it doesn't come out of "he is ___ so I will support him", it's more about what material they release (altho I can understand the OF things, since gays thrist over str8s) I am more annoyed by gays being homophobic and making it a joke 1
dawnettakins Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I don't agree with this "our own" narrative. It divides us more than anything and at this time we need less division I think. Not necessarily "unity" as I don't like that term, but at least more common understanding and less derision. 2 3
Distantconstellation Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Our own? Lol u cant tell me what to do or how to feel or what to think. Pay me and i might considerate then 1 1
West Coast Posted January 16 Posted January 16 We support troye tho lil nas doesn’t make good music 10 4
St. Charles Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I say like whoever you like. No issue there. but the stan jokes like “queen Ariana ended homophobia on this day in 2018 when she released 7 rings & became the #1 LGBT icon of our generation” a tad much
Yawn Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Just now, West Coast said: We support troye tho you don’t speak for me 6 4 1
Reginald Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Tbh you'll never catch me giving Lil Nas X, Troye, or Sam Smith a proper lashing on this site. Even if I'm not the biggest fan of their music, they will always get a "community pass," from me. 14
EtherealCat Posted January 16 Posted January 16 are you trying to suggest that lil nas x makes quality music worth supporting? 1 10
Cain Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Love the comments in here touting “I won’t let ANYONE tell me what to think!!” as if preferring heterosexuals over homosexuals isn’t exactly what mainstream media and ideology has told you to think 5 1 4 3 4
alexrex Posted January 16 Posted January 16 What does your sexuality have to do with the people you admire? It's not mandatory, you like who you like. I don't like Lil Nas X, but I like some Sam Smith, Years and Years, Jessie J
Badgalbriel Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) Just because people are gay, doesn't mean they're my own. We're all human beings, doesn't mean all humans are my own. We're all animals, doesn't mean all animals are my own. We're mostly men, doesn't mean men are my own. Quit this sh*t. It's not a group project. Edited January 16 by Badgalbriel 2 1
kevino Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I don't see myself supporting meh music like lil nas x anytime soon
TROJAN Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I’m not struggling with anything. Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I should be put in a box and forced to support someone. If the person is nice and resonates with me I’ll support them. No matter what gender, race, sexuality they are. 1 4
getBusy Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) I kinda agree BUT I think there’s a difference between “supporting” and “not being an as***** towards” someone If I don’t like a song, I won’t stream it, period. And that’s ok even if I’m not supporting a queer artist. But if i don’t like a song, it’s completely UNNECESSARY to just diss that queer artist, either on atrl, twitter, whatever. That’s where i think there’s an opportunity for the lgbtq+ community to come together. Just don’t say anything. But don’t come for your own. Edited January 16 by getBusy 2

Fleahive Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I’ll always give a straight man my OF money PERIOT! Sorry the gays zont zoo it for me. 1 4 1
GentleEarthquake Posted January 16 Posted January 16 That's called internalized homophobia which is very common in ATRL 3
Strawberry Bubble Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I love Troye Sivan because his music really speaks to me, and I believe that he has true talent. Also, he is gay. I'm sorry, but I don't have to support a singer whom I don't like just because he is gay. 'J Christ' by Lil Nas X is truly a bad song, and the video didn't live up to the hype. Supporting someone doesn't mean that you should lie to yourself; if the artist is bad, he is bad. If you are tired of this, it is even more exhausting to keep hearing social commentators believing that there is a 'right way' to support gay people. 2
punisher Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) i’m not gay but like why would people force themselves to listen to lil nas x just to support, especially when his music is hot trash pop culture is built off of women and that’s how it’s always been, with the exception of some talented male queer artists like troye, frank ocean, tyler and omar apollo also everybody trashes lil nas x’s publicity stunts because it’s getting tired, nobody is gonna pretend to eat it up, it was cool for one era but now it’s annoying Edited January 16 by punisher 1

So now what?! Pay my bills and then we can talk.
Gov Hooka Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I am not (and refuse to be) in “community” with a significant chunk of the LGBTQ (lbr mostly white cis gay & bi men making up this chunk) demographic…
