He should just let the work speak for itself. People are tired of religious imagery in pop and think its a stale topic , so he should  make its sure done well, explain the POV after the premiere if need be etc. But, you can't take the stan twitter out of the artist, so he's going to go about this all messy. :toofunny3:

I'm glad he's enjoying his brief meme career. The other two artists he mentioned have lasting legacies.

It's a shame that his artistic output has been cheap. I really wanted to root for him in the beginning.

The worst part about his take is putting Like A Prayer next to JUDAS :skull: even the church called Gaga a Madonna wannabe lol

Sorry but disrespecting someone as Legendary as Lady Gaga-Madonna is a no for me. Hope he flops with this new single.
Hope he's boycotted by the industry. Im not playing his new basic generic trap song with the same themes of his last album.
Reinvent yourself for gods sake. His typical antics are gettin tirsesome :gaycat4:
I have Tate. I have Ariana. I Have Ava Max and Kygo.  There's better new records to play out there :gaycat3:

and i was supportive of him cause he's gay and i think he can bring interesting things to music but he's rude as ****. :giraffe:
He also posted something ableist the other day mockin disabled people and people called him out on instagram
He was rude and a mysoginistic to so many pop girls in the past. He's a bad spirited soul.

Quality music, even as she got weird she was still putting out quality pop songs like Sexxx Dreams

I could be wrong but last I heard Montero has a higher Metacritic score than any Gaga album :deadbanana2: Here’s some other artists I can make off the top of my head that have also made a commentary on religion through their music: Prince, Kanye West, Sinead O’Connor, Lana del Rey, Frankie Knuckles…

all this song did was cement him as a gimmick artist i fear

Well, he is right. Their fans are so annoying.

I'm not going to s*** on him for the sake of it, because I do agree that we're missing entertaining figures who can ruffle some feathers, and having a gay black man doing it is genuinely cool. However, it gets corny at a certain point. Even Madonna and Gaga had to dial it down (Bedtime Stories, Joanne) so people wouldn't get tired. Granted, Madonna did Erotica after LAP, but the backlash for that was humongous so I guess it proves my point.

I'd be genuinely curious to see if he can pull off an era WITHOUT the shock factor. Now that would be an actual risk I'd be interested to witness.

My thoughts? His rage bait is not exclusive to Christians and a statement like this is rage bait too just with a different demo in its crosshairs. When people learn to categorically ignore his antics, they will immediately cease as they have no artistic merit behind them.

I'm a huge Madonna fan, don't come for me :alexz2:

do I think saying "Idgaf about what they did" when both artists were trailblazers for the music video as a medium is the best thing to say — no

Madonna especially. she practically helped create the blueprint for what most artists are still doing to this day.

absolutely no denying that

:sorry:

...but still I kind of get his response. he's a black gay artist and has his own relationship with christianity — and we can defend our queens all we want but I'm sure being compared to two white women is frustrating :noparty:

at the end of the day neither Madonna or Lady Gaga can gatekeep making art that engages with their religious upbringing (and Lil Nas X won't be the last to do this either)

anyways Like a Prayer stays legendary:alexz:

like this is probably the most exciting thing happening in pop era/image-wise, but you would think he actually became a religious nut job based on how people here are responding to everything :rip:

If you really think that I feel sorry for you.

the way hes throwing bait left and right and people are snatching it right on up JDJSKFKSKS i cant even be mad; he def knows how to use social media for his benefit :bibliahh:

Yeah, It's so obvious that he tweets **** for attention before each release but it always makes me wonder to what extent the outrage caused by these tweets translates into streams. In the case of 'Montero', at least he had opponents of Christianity on his side, but I really don't see how tweeting such things as in the OP would benefit him in any way.

and….. he’s not wrong????

Maybe he should gaf because what these artists did had some artistic merit while what he does comes across as Halloween dress-up.

His third era in the span of 5 years. This is not proof that he's going to have any lasting impact.

Before his fans say it’s because he’s black and gay, it’s not.

The thing is that the blasphemy topic, mocking religion and **** was done by him the last era already and then done by Sam and then by Doja so it feels already stale and based on the snippet he posted the song sounds like his other songs so everything feels recycled.
