Trent W Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) It’s very very cheap and desperate I don’t think even the conspiracy theorists that think that hollywood is the devil will pick on this It’s like Miley in adore you or Gaga in artpop, the gimmick is so tired than no one cares anymore Edited January 8 by Trent W 1

It's also been wild seeing how FAST the first generation after me to grow up in western gay liberation rejected these queer artists. Complaining about their exploration of religious imagery and subtext and saying it's tired or "been done before" by cis female artists is beyond sad. We've literally had the platform for only a decade and y'all are already bored ? the tired part is that HE just did it for his mainstream era and is doing it again directly after, not Cis women
PoisonedIvy Posted January 8 Posted January 8 All of you complaining just literally doing exactly what he wants: stirring up discussion about his music 1 1

And we're a live example of that ddd. Montero had them riled up for weeks, so I guess this is him just responding with yet another blasphemous song, this time portraying himself as Jesus.

Peak Now Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I genuinely don't care about the baiting itself, but this is just Montero rollout from Wish

Yeah and back then he had just came out when his first era was over so him being blasphemous after smashing got some people angry and was still fresh and a smart idea at its time Now he looks out of ideas, desperate and try hard. Unless he miraculously starts delivering top quality music and less gimmicks he will probably be over.
Psylocke Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Don't care for his music but keep making the x-tians mad king
RihsUmbrella Posted January 8 Posted January 8 My first reaction was ugh not again. But after seeing everyone’s reactions I guess he was onto something bc it’s surely bringing attention to him again 4

His career will be short lived if it’s reliant on gimmicks/try-hard “shock” value. 1

Not just y’all here, the people that complain on twitter or any other discussion site. It all just perpetuates the attention he is seeking. If you all were truly over his antics you would ignore them and not comment at all, and he’d fade into obscurity. But he’s cracked the code, people cannot help but complain or condemn the things they do not like, and thus it is an infinite attention glitch to use that in your favor. 2
Jay07 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Boring and cringe. It's not just that he's going back to the religion thing, it's that nothing he's done has been particularly insightful or even artistically rewarding, it's literally the lowest hanging fruit imaginable. Twerking on Satan and now putting himself on the cross? Ooooh how "shocking". Sure Madonna did it first but at least she made the Like a Prayer video, one of the best music videos of all time. Even Gaga reimagining Jesus' disciples as a biker gang was a smart idea. Montero was like the tackiest, most obvious thing I've ever seen and these images look like more of the same. 2
DAP Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Basic stunt, that’s fine. Won’t say blasphemy isn’t provocative but religious culture war themes don’t hit the same anymore. If these artists really want something subversive then say some shite about capitalism or class conflict. 2

It's so weird how gays are so quick to tear down one of their own. I'm excited to see what music he has in store because Montero and Industry Baby are some of the greatest bops in recent memory Where were you when people were dragging Doja for the devil imagery a couple of months ago when the PTTR video came out? It's just boring and reductive OT: Boring yawning sloppy lazy, wouldn't have had as much as an issue with it if he did something other than religious imagery but that seems like the easiest way to cause outrage while securing success from his core following so You'd think someone who was active on ATRL during the peak of SYG would know how to be more unique when it comes to drumming up controversy but. tellem Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) In 2024 he’s only upsetting the right wing types who get mad at literally everything. If there’s nothing for normal people to think about then what even is the point? Edited January 8 by tellem 1
JackOfHearts Posted January 8 Posted January 8 So much vitriol for him on here, I didn’t think it was that deep 👀 He’s a clever kid, let him try his strategies. At least he’s TRYING, more than most artists nowadays. It’s a touch blasphemous, but I think it’s intended to be coming BACK from that portion of his career. 1

No. Let him cook, that's one of our own tackling the same systems we fight against in a very public way. Nope. They had the pitchforks out because he was doing drag for a Halloween costume last year.

Big Bad Wolf Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Grinding on Satan was tired already. This is redundant.
God_Donna Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Madonna performing live to tell @ the confessions tour on her disco themed cross was so much better than this. I hope he flops it’s desperate. Find some class.
