Happylittlepunk Posted January 7 Posted January 7 There is a lot positive things about gen-Z but when it comes to work ethic and actually something meaningful they do lag behind. 2 1

Antonini Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Yeah. Glad I don’t really have to interact with any Gen Zs in the workplace.
Soda Pop Queen Posted January 8 Posted January 8 She's absolutely right about spelling and grammar lol the internet age has cut the average human's vocabulary in half. I think I read somewhere that the average adult used to have the vocabulary of about 3000 words, now it's less than a 1000 words. I mean, you could hear it even in the pop music. Read the lyrics from a random pop hit from the 80s vs. a random one from today. Language is an ever changing and evolving mode of communication and while I do think internet/social media shorthand can be creative, it's not supposed to make us dumber lol 2
Erreur2 La Nature Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Love her a lot and I strongly agree with her points. As a french I would say that 80% of the Gen Z is incapable or righting a simple sentance in french without many grammatical erros and that's infuriating. I feel like the most people have access to any type of knowledge, the least informed and cultured they become as they don't feel the need to learn and just search for anything on Google. UnderratedVocalist Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Well, she's definitely right. Gen Z is all about playing the victim and demanding things just because they exist. They grew up in the internet world and they will soon realize that the real world is nothing like social media. Edited January 8 by UnderratedVocalist 1
Vermillion Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Even if it wasn’t her intention, Jodie is smart enough to know these publications pull quotes to twist what you mean so I’m surprised she even gave them that opportunity. Generalizations about any generations have been and continue to be tired. She knows better. 1 1

When the cost of living was cheaper, people had a more immediate reward for their hard work (e.g. buying a house). I don't blame younger people who coast along because there is no genuine incentive for them to do otherwise. Blame the boomers for setting up such a disastrous economy Nd work till you die culture. There is no incentive and there is no work ethic because it does not pay. She sounds naive. On 1/7/2024 at 1:37 PM, Fleabag said: I mean this is not surprising when an entire generation has grown up believing they've had the ladder pulled from them when it comes to economic mobility and building wealth (and rightfully so). You're a lot less inclined to work hard when you feel like it won't get you anywhere meaningful economically. Many Gen-Zers in the workforce right now were kids watching their parents struggle during the recession in 08 and I think that has def set the tone on their views on things like work and the economy. If these business owners/CEOs think that young people don't want to work as hard as they used to, maybe they should push to restore many of the systems that were once in place to make it seem like a worthwhile effort (living wage, affordable housing, affordable college, pensions, unions) instead of complaining and forcing policies people don't like down their throats like return to office mandates. You guys nailed it. Gen Z's attitude about work and education is a direct result of what their prior generations sowed. American capitalism and their education system has been on a steady decline for decades and it is finally all tipping over and **** is hitting the fan. Gen Z's lack of drive is ultimately sourced by nihilism and bitterness to the world they inherited. They also have no real power yet, so they're helpless to the ******* boomers in charge majority still to this day. I've also heard from people who work in American schools that Gen X & millennial parents were kind of terrible about raising their Gen Z/Alpha kids and they misbehave terribly. Parents are completely exhausted & barely making ends meet, so that obviously affects quality of parenting too. American culture is just in a big decline & we're really seeing it now. 2 5
Yawn Posted January 8 Posted January 8 the gen z in my team quit recently because she didn’t want to work for an employer where she was expected to routinely do 3 days in office per week she started during the pandemic so had never been in an office full time before. even the expectation for those 3 days in office wasn’t strict and has the possibility of lots of flexibility tho…
AMIT Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The brain dead millenials in this thread that fell for the scam of ''work ethic'' (which directly translates to ''bootlicking'' btw) not realizing they are doing the same thing to Gen Z/Alpha that Boomers did to them and soured them greatly as a result. You really cannot make this **** up. If y'all got treated unfairly (not listened to, got told what to do constantly, fell for unfair contracts etc) by the older generations then why do you wish to do the SAME to the newer generations? That's insane. 1 2 1

When she signed up to the job there was an arrangement which she liked, now it's being changed to one she doesn't. Instead of kicking and screaming she's walked away and will look for a job that better suits her needs. 3

Capris Groove Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I'm literally thrilled about this. PLEASE, Gen Z, keep challenging everything and remember that YOU have the power, not your employer. They will have to acquiesce. 1

This, I can't wait until younger millennials and Gen Z get into senior management. It will be work from home casual fridays every day. 1

I know my employer definitely offers it as an option. I also have a couple of friends who only have to go in like once a month.
QueenBLadyG Posted January 9 Posted January 9 She's not wrong at all. Gen Z may just be the death of humanity and the planet itself. I couldn't imagine them being the leaders of the world once everyone else has died. 1 1
