For SM it was also a Kakao issue, many many stores and buyers reported that the stock simply wasn't shipped. Orders had to be canceled because they received nothing to sell from SM/Kakao. There is a lot of evidence of this, including on Twitter/X of these problems.

 

I can't speak for why ITZY's sales have dramatically crashed by like 60-70% though, since JYP doesn't use Kakao as a distributor.

China and Kakao issues aren’t mutually exclusive though. I’m sure there will be ripple effects as the article suggests.
