Eternium Posted October 19 Posted October 19 22 minutes ago, Pluto6 said: Sure, SNSD were big as a group back in their day, but it's okay to admit that the other members outside of Taeyeon, Jessica and Yoona don't have as big solo careers as those 3, which is normal for almost every Kpop group that isn't Blackpink or BTS. Blackpink have literally 4 "Taeyeons" in their group. You seriously can't compare Suzan sitting on her couch, Hyo struggling to pull 200K streams, Sooyoung being N/A for years and not being able to debut in Korea due to low interest, Yuri and Seohyun giving up on their solo music career after bombing etc. to the things BP members have achieved as soloists Baby, this is why you get dragged for having no knowledge of K-pop. I can tell you got in late during 3rd Gen. When SNSD debuted, there was no money in K-pop and comebacks weren't very profitable. A significant number of K-pop groups were fronts for money laundering/crime and most groups made their money back from CFs. It's why SNSD has more collabs with Goobne Chicken than J. Lo does with Pitbull. There also wasn't the possibility of mass-streaming, autoplay or putting out tons of different versions. It's why most groups, even when the members were popular, couldn't secure a debut for a solo member and when they did, it was already considered a success. What each SNSD member did was groundbreaking and just because Taeyeon, Jessica and YoonA are the most successful doesn't mean that they are the only successful members. Tiffany, YuRi, Seohyun and Hyoyeon were able to outsell their rival groups in album sales. You're trying to compare the market in 2024 for K-pop artists to the market from 2007-2016 and it's just beyond delusional, sis. Also, BlackPink have a long way to go before they have four Taeyeons. Lisa has one song that hit the top 100 at #64. You're trying to drag Sunny, but even she has a #25 single (and 4 other top 100 entries) despite choosing to not debut. Taeyeon is an artist who has had almost two decades of domestic hits AND has been relevant in the K-pop community that entire time. Put some respect on a legend's name. 5

Remember when he tried to claim Stray Kids were a bigger streaming force than Aespa? 2 1

Wonder Girls' career suffered because of that...and SNSD and 2NE1 were almost falling into that trap, but then scrapped theirs. I would rather they just did English droplets like Better Things every now and then and focused on building in their strongest markets, including Japan. 2
Odette Violet Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Being invested and hiding behind other successful groups who debuted in a much open landscape bc you can't come for the groups' legacy who stomped your faves a decade ago then stanning talentless men dunno which worst 2 1

But I find it super hard to choose between Savage, MY WORLD/Drama and Armageddon, since all of those eras were so on point.

Pluto6 Posted October 19 Posted October 19 And let's make it very clear. Nobody was comparing SNSD to BP in terms of solo careers, until scones themselves randomly trying to insert their faves, when people in here were talking about Blackpink having 4 megastars at a level that hasn't been seen before

It's why she had such a successful radio show. She was actually doing a bunch of stage musicals and voicing characters, but she stepped back in 2017. YuRi was also a viral sensation on Invincible Youth. Her solo album outsold what her rival groups from her generation were selling at their peak and she had ratings hits like "Good Job" and the monster ratings hit, "Bossam: Steal the Fate." YuRi is arguably the second biggest actress. Thank you for this. I was still learning about k-pop during those years and wasn’t quite familiar with how variety and other shows worked. What happened with Sunny that caused her to basically withdraw from everything? 1

There was a Nintendo switch video Game discount, and she hasn't left the couch since 😔
