The Sun: Dua scrapped big budget music video over Israel-Gaza conflict concerns

And what is the point of this? Is she gonna wait until there are no armed conflicts in the world to release a MV with chaos and explosions? Saddest part is that it was probably the wisest choice, since people have a hard time understanding fiction.

Not sure if some people in this thread are being obtuse on purpose. She is just going to wait for a better timing. By releasing in its original window it would be problematic because it would be the peak of the conflict, and Dua was very vocal/pro Palestine, she would be easily dragged by everyone for being contradictory.

it’s gonna be fine, I’m sure they will release it eventually. Everyone needs to chill.

They might release it further down the line (like a year from now)… no point scrapping it entirely.

Scrapping a high budget video and pissing money down the drain is probably way more insensitive and tone deaf than just releasing the video. Anyone would sense would not think the video was anything to do with real or current affairs.

What most likely happened is that the video shoot just didn't go well or turn out as expected, so they went with a different concept, and to cut their losses they've used it as a good PR opportunity to make Dua look sensitive and considerate of current affairs.

It doesn't really work though, because there's been another very recent and widely reported on war that should've stopped them in their tracks from making this type of video in the first place if they really felt it was that insensitive.

Why not shoot another video then instead of scrapping the single altogether? This reeks of label planted excuses.

What the **** is this post? :deadbanana2:

How is scrapping a high budget video tone deaf? Do you even know what tone deaf means? Insensitive to whom? To studio who financed the MV? Boohoo.

What sense would it make for Dua's team to go "are you scrapping a MV because it's bad? Perfect! Let's make it public and use it to make you look empathetic :alexz3:"? :dies:

Good decision. ZioNAZI freaks would have probably abused it as a war anthem. I can picture the Tik Toks of them blasting it with tied up civilians headed for the torture chamber in the background.

Nothing you said made sense. Dua doesn’t need PR **** like this to look sensitive, she is not ashamed of her political sides. Just check her Service podcast stuff. If anything this would be bad for her label, because they spent a **** amount of money and had to plan everything again.

The video didn’t turn out as expected?? Hahahahha do you have any idea how big budget projects go? Everything is planned ahead and approved before the shooting itself. It’s just a matter of executing.

This era is a mess. I wonder if she will push back the album for the end of 2024-2025 :giraffe: another wrong movement and her career could be over and turn into a witness situation

I feel like she could have just waited until January and release it then :rip:

It’s like people forget that there is a popular song advocating her death due to her views. She may be a bit more sensitive to this than another MPG.

Exactly, there is not a single day without an active armed conflict in the world since the beginning of time, and we have always had movies and MVs with this kind of theme. Either the MV was oddly specific or we are losing the plot massively.

These notions are so empty, yes there are armed conflicts everyday, no most of them don’t hit the West (Dua’s main market) like the Israel-Palestine war OBVIOUSLY

It was all people cared about for weeks, from a career perspective, it would’ve been a bad look for Dua to release a big war video during that time because of all the attention the Israel-Palestine war was getting in all of her most important territories

Like what’s so hard to grasp about that

So there’s more lead single material still yet to be heard you say

This does make some sense unfortunately. Everything about the era so far just felt thrown together last minute in comparison to the excellent world building that she did with Future Nostalgia. She's barely talked about the album in interviews other than "it's coming" and that it's psychedelic in sound. They'll probably do a soft reset on the era next year.

Houdini is a good song but it's not very "welcome to my new era" in the way that Future Nostalgia was.

Houdini will now likely be the albums Focus on Me. They’ve performed similar on the charts as well.

Completely understandable. She, her team, and Warner Records would have probably gotten heat for putting that video out around that time.

I do wonder if her Disco sound has become bigger than her though.

I remember she dropped “We’re Good” as the official lead off the reissue with a new sound and it flopped. She basically pretended like the reissue never happened and continued the original era.

She’s really got to give it 110% to bring people over to the new sound, and she gave Houdini like 20%.

They obvi plan to release it in another quiter time.

The video was very likely funded by sponsors (prolly Porsche and Puma among others) she cannot just scrap it altogether.

Laughing out loud at the people in here “boycotting.”

Isrsel have been in the competition for decades while being in conflict with Palestine. Why are you only now just deciding to boycott?

I’m sure I’ll see you in here next May when social media has moved on to the next trend

It's just funny to me how the people in this thread crying about "cancel culture!!!" and "soft people!!" are also pro-Israel and camped in the megathread upvoting Israeli propaganda, I would have never expected it. :coffee2:

Complaining about a music video not being released when there are thousands of people being killed and the #1 song in Israel was calling for the IDF to kill Dua, Bella Hadid, and Mia Khalifa is crazy. Think outside of the pop culture bubble for once.
