Feanor Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 MSNBC: Taylor Swift could save Joe Biden in 2024. No, seriously. Quote But a few celebrities have the notoriety and the cultural influence to shift the political tides. Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Barack Obama in 2007 is estimated by one set of economists to have moved one million voters into Obama’s column. […] Winfrey’s move was almost certainly the exception when it comes to celebrity endorsements. But while Swift has been a major star for years, in 2023 she is, as Oprah was in 2008, undoubtedly the most famous and influential cultural icon in the country. Could an endorsement of Joe Biden affect the outcome of the 2024 election? Quote At the very least, it’s difficult to see how it would hurt the 81-year-old incumbent to appear on the campaign trail with a 33-year-old superstar who has her finger on the pulse of young America and is the most beloved cultural icon in the country. The Straits Times: Swifties to the US polls? Why eyes are on Taylor ahead of 2024 Quote And yet, in the highly polarised US political and media landscape, everything the superstar singer does or does not do is likely to invite a simultaneous deluge of praise and firestorm of fierce criticism. Swift, recently named Time magazine’s Person of the Year, is viewed favourably by 70 per cent of Americans – the sort of numbers that any president would kill for. Quote According to a recent Harvard poll, the percentage of Americans aged 18 to 29 who “definitely” plan on voting for a president has decreased from 57 per cent to 49 per cent, compared with those surveyed at this time in 2020. This is where Swift might have an impact. “I don’t think the way these work is that when people see, oh, Taylor Swift endorsed Joe Biden, and they say, ‘Well, that’s who I’m going to vote for,’” Dr Matthew Harris told AFP news agency. “It’s more along the lines of her ability to mobilise people, to encourage people to register to vote,” he added […] And in a tight election, as many predict 2024 will be, “those suburban areas... are really kind of the swing areas of American politics”. The Hill: Miss Americana: How Taylor Swift could save Joe Biden Quote Taylor Swift epitomizes contemporary superstardom, with unparalleled popularity and an immense following. As 2024 approaches, the singer could play a pivotal role for democracy by securing the reelection of President Biden and ending the political career of former President Donald Trump. Quote If Swift throws her considerable cultural weight around in the 2024 election, she should do so strategically. There is certainly a spectrum of involvement she might consider. […] A more conservative approach to improving the likelihood of a Biden win may involve general nationwide calls to vote. A more aggressive intervention could include a complete endorsement of President Biden, potentially accompanied by joint public appearances or participation in private fundraisers. The most effective strategy might be a calculated campaign to boost voter turnout in key swing states, such as Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Georgia.
Popular Post Bloodflowers. Posted December 26, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 26, 2023 Democrat lobbyists will try to do everything except do a fair primary to get panned, unelectable and senile Joe out from running second term that he will not win. Clowns. 40 2 3 1
Popular Post Space Cowboy Posted December 26, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 26, 2023 This is just stupid. You all are overstimating Taylor’s power. She just has a big fandom, but she doesn’t have any political power. 17 1 1 1
ATRL Moderator Popular Post Bloo Posted December 26, 2023 ATRL Moderator Popular Post Posted December 26, 2023 Taylor isn’t going to endorse a politician that is widely hated by the young people that consume her music. It’s pitiful that this is their desperate strategy rather than run on meaningful policy. 36 5
SlowGinFizzzz Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 (edited) I mean, even Beyoncé endorsing Hillary Clinton wasn't enough for her to win, and I would argue that as a celebrity Beyoncé has/had more political power than Taylor simply because Bey is inherently a much more political figure. The latter has for the most part only ever spoken up when it was safe (as in, unlikely to hurt her status as a megastar) to do so, and considering how unpopular Biden is, I doubt that would be the case. Taylor at her current level of fame absolutely has political power and could sway a significant amount of voters if she were to make a more vocal endorsement of a candidate besides an impartial IG story like her last vote.org post. OT: I hope she doesn't give in. Biden doesn't deserve her endorsement. 10 1 1

Chartman Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 She could perform at his 2025 inauguration.

Maybe in 2016, but I feel like people are way past being swayed by celebrities’ political opinions aside from maybe terminally online stans. And endorsing Biden would not only piss off her many conservative fans, but also her liberal fans who hate Genocide Joe Edited December 26, 2023 by barbiegrande 1
wastedpotential Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Biden 2024 is a sinking ship and I seriously doubt she's going to let herself be the metaphorical life raft 8

heckinglovato Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Considering she's been silent on the genocide/ethnic cleansing of a population and is an infamously massive polluter, I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to keep the status quo by endorsing Genocide Joe. 5 1 3

Someone on the level of stardom like Taylor has a lot of power to influence the public. 2

State of Grace. Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 The desperation for endorsements from celebs has started It will be interesting to see the "political/humanitarian/activist" celebs rally behind Genocide Joe next year (bc human rightz!! and Trump sux!) when he's currently supporting the ongoing genocide in Palestine. 12
