not quotable on which planet? Saturn?

The movie was a classic case of ‘show, don’t tell’. It was too on the nose and felt like a by the numbers version of what a feminist movie is supposed to be (as oppossed to Lady Bird which is also a movie by Greta which did a much better job at portraying strong female characters)

I was able to appreciate a lot of other aspects and overall liked it well enough for what it was. The comedy however was for the most part frothy, childish and basic to me. Even the average animated Disney or Pixar movie made specifically for children usually offers way superior comedic elements. :rip:

It worked for me. The “depressed Barbie” advertisement, the “Barbie solved all problems for women gag”, the fascist joke, the scene when they’re playing guitar on the beach all worked for me. The latter was funny cause I went with some of my girlfriends who actually had men try to woo them with guitar playing so there was a lot of humor like that laced throughout it. It’s a very specific kinda humor though and it won’t work for everyone.

Imagine calling out other people’s education level and then not even doing the due diligence to check the Aqua song. It’s literally the first line of the song. I might grant you that it’s “hiya” instead of hi…

Uh no? That's a you thing that you can't brandish as a universally agreed issue of the movie. Especially when it is a critical and audience-acclaimed film with a slew of nominations from renowned awarding institutions like the Oscars, Critic Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards:rip:

No, that's "Hello Barbie, let's go party!" not "Hi Barbie! Hi Ken!" :deadbanana:

OT:

The monologue at the end? "I am Kenough"? "Hi Barbie! Hi Ken!"?

Hiya, Barbie
Hi, Ken
You want to go for a ride?
Sure, Ken
Jump in

I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

Come on, Barbie, let's go party

I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

I'm a blonde bimbo girl in a fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky

You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours" (ooh, oh)

I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)

Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again
Hit the town, fool around, let's go party

You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours"

Okay my bad

Nobody was using this line before the Barbie movie came out though. So the Barbie film still popularized the statement :rip:

That entire song was in the movie, like a musical

When it finished I was like...wait that was it lol

It was a terribly written millennial white woman tumblr'd 2012 era movie. The praise it got & the online Swiftie-sque cult around it was baffling.

I think there's been a cognitive dissonance among gays cause Barbie was seen as this huge party where gays are also invited and part of the celebration of femininity. Then turns out it's really just for women exclusively with nothing in it that's emotionally powerful or relatable for gays, aside from enjoying the visuals, fashion and music.

So maybe that's why gays are now belittling this movie when it was never meant for them in the first place. It's usually male ATRLers that I see hating on it or calling it overrated.

That part. And the message it has concerning masculinity- that men aren't solely defined by who they date, who they have sex with, or what they own, and that men need to figure out who they are apart from things- just wasn't for the gay male ARTL crowd who still overwhelmingly has deep parasocial relationships with female popstars.

And some people just need to be contrarian to feel intelligent or special.

Because this movie was absolute crap, like even if you liked it its just an objectivly bad and dishonest movie

its not quotable because all the movie had to say was already said hundreds or even thousands of  times before, what is there to quote when the eintire movie is just a collage of quotes(metaphoricly)

this movie would be good in the 1950s when its messege meant something now when everybody(with functioning brain) mostly agrees with its messege its esentaily just an add pretending to be activism .

also its dishonest as the sponsors continue to thrive thanks to the very thing the movie critiques. Mattel delibetry underpays their female workers in their factorys. it pays less to women then to man and by a huge margain. Also mattels dolls reinforce the patriarchy and promote sexist stereotpes. Also mattel is internaly sexist as a corporation.

I'm gonna say it, the soundtrack was the best thing to come out of all this. Bops on bops. The film itself was fine, good even, but very overrated. I could tell people in positions of power in media really wanted this movie to do well and be well-received and they did everything possible to have it perceived as such, but the message is honestly not very authentically inclusive and I don't think it got the point they were trying to pedal across very well.

hm?

me and my niece always say “Hi Barbie!” to each other

Feel like it tried so hard to appeal to Gen Z but the humor was highly millenial. Maybe that's why

Spoiler

Like I cringe so hard every time I see the scene where Ken shouts "Sublime!", like what does that even mean??

Just saw this tonight and there are a few quotable lines, tbf most of it came from Ken lol
