Titanic isn’t that quotable either yet it’s like the biggest movie ever

Excuse me WHAT? "I'm the king of the world", ""Draw me Llke one of your french girls" are some of the most iconic lines in cinema.

Margot low key didn't do anything in this entire movie if you think about it.

America is the real main character.

Go one step further and say "Barbie is the real villain", but with NPR intonation, and you have material for a pretentious 15-minute Youtube video essay.

What is it with all these weirdos on ATRL trying to convince everyone the Barbie movie was bad or at worst unmemorable? :biblio:

It was the pop culture moment of 2023 and will be remembered forever. :celestial5:

Girl, people on here will claim the Eras tour is the biggest pop culture moment of 2023

It's kind of ridiculous how some people either are forgetful in terms of how impact works or ignorant.

People always hate on the most hyped thing but it takes years to establish if it's iconic or just a thing of its time.

There are very few movies that become quotable from the get-go. Even the example of Mean Girls took YEARS before it was iconic for the GP and only movies like The Dark Knight were instantly quotable but that was because it had its best lines in the trailers and used them on its merchandise before the movie came out.

I think there's been a cognitive dissonance among gays cause Barbie was seen as this huge party where gays are also invited and part of the celebration of femininity. Then turns out it's really just for women exclusively with nothing in it that's emotionally powerful or relatable for gays, aside from enjoying the visuals, fashion and music.

So maybe that's why gays are now belittling this movie when it was never meant for them in the first place. It's usually male ATRLers that I see hating on it or calling it overrated.

I still wonder why they brought Charli XCX, Ava Max, two artists who are synonymous with gay men, to feature on the soundtrack on a movie not made for the gays.

Y’all switched on the movie as soon as the GP liked it. I’m dying. :rip:

Quotable and quality are not exactly concordant qualities.

I think that’s silly tho tbh. Barbie has always been a girls toy even though gays obviously have an affection for them. The brand and the story is a remarkable feminist story and for that reason it’d feel weird for it to tie in to gay liberation as well. I think as gay men we should champion women’s story being made and being successful not the opposite

it turned out that the Barbie movie is not for the gheys but for the straight girl

How is Barbie not for the gays when it’s the most over the top camp movie of the past few years?

I remember something in the line of 'I can't even beach'.

Barbie is for the girls. Gays men should leave it alone and let the girls enjoy it.

This revisionist history w Barbie is so annoying. Why does everyone hate fun

This website genuinely wants to tear down everything gays hold dear because it’s not “iconic” or doesn’t have 6 billion streams

I don't know why so many people on this site dislike this movie. :rip:

Because it serves as a 2 hour Mattel commercial with sprinked performative feminism in between and not much substance beyond that. It would have faired better if they didn't abandon the mother-daughter storyline midway in favor of that unnecessary boys vs girls fight.
