Go one step further and say "Barbie is the real villain", but with NPR intonation, and you have material for a pretentious 15-minute Youtube video essay. 2

It was the pop culture moment of 2023 and will be remembered forever. Girl, people on here will claim the Eras tour is the biggest pop culture moment of 2023 1
BrandNewBrandon Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 (edited) It's kind of ridiculous how some people either are forgetful in terms of how impact works or ignorant. People always hate on the most hyped thing but it takes years to establish if it's iconic or just a thing of its time. There are very few movies that become quotable from the get-go. Even the example of Mean Girls took YEARS before it was iconic for the GP and only movies like The Dark Knight were instantly quotable but that was because it had its best lines in the trailers and used them on its merchandise before the movie came out. Then turns out it's really just for women exclusively with nothing in it that's emotionally powerful or relatable for gays, aside from enjoying the visuals, fashion and music. So maybe that's why gays are now belittling this movie when it was never meant for them in the first place. It's usually male ATRLers that I see hating on it or calling it overrated. I still wonder why they brought Charli XCX, Ava Max, two artists who are synonymous with gay men, to feature on the soundtrack on a movie not made for the gays.
St. Charles Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Y’all switched on the movie as soon as the GP liked it. I’m dying.
Johnny Jacobs Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Its a good movie Was it overhyped and overrated? Def I didn't thought about it a day after i saw it. 1
Asscatchem Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 its the corniest thing to have happened this year 8
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 The way i ironically use this quote in real life And also this is still one of the best lines in the movie this year so I don't why some y'all called this movie isn't memorable smh 1

I think that’s silly tho tbh. Barbie has always been a girls toy even though gays obviously have an affection for them. The brand and the story is a remarkable feminist story and for that reason it’d feel weird for it to tie in to gay liberation as well. I think as gay men we should champion women’s story being made and being successful not the opposite 4
P.O.P Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 FUMES at this 1.4B grossing masterpiece. Go watch Mean Girls for the 54th time.
chiliam Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 it turned out that the Barbie movie is not for the gheys but for the straight girl And of course ATRL will be sexist. 2
Archetype Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 How is Barbie not for the gays when it’s the most over the top camp movie of the past few years?
Mandalay Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I remember something in the line of 'I can't even beach'.
flower moon Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 i could not believe how average this movie felt. i thought we were getting a means girls, legally blonde iconic like film but it was just a long ass corny snl sketch 6 3
EndofASadMovie Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Barbie is for the girls. Gays men should leave it alone and let the girls enjoy it. 1 1

Because it serves as a 2 hour Mattel commercial with sprinked performative feminism in between and not much substance beyond that. It would have faired better if they didn't abandon the mother-daughter storyline midway in favor of that unnecessary boys vs girls fight. Edited December 20, 2023 by Lorelei 7
RIKI232 Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I came with such high expectations, but this was one of the WORST films i have ever seen 7
ThinkLater Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 it was a mid unfunny version of legally blonde tbh 1
ATRL Moderator Popular Post Bloo Posted December 20, 2023 ATRL Moderator Popular Post Posted December 20, 2023 The Barbie hate on this site makes no sense. The movie was funny, campy, and different in a sea of generic CGI action movies. 14 3
