You are not asking permission to marry the woman, you are asking permission to join the family.  It would similarly be a bit rude for the woman to get married without getting approval from their soon to be mother in law.

First time hearing about asking for the father’s permission to marry someone. Seems like a highly misogynistic tradition.

It's not so much an example of misogyny but more so a tradition put in place to combat misogyny their daughters may face. 

Traditionally (and this still holds true in some places today), women are "scarred" if their 1st marriage falls apart. Thus, protective parents want to have some say in choosing a person who is right for their daughter and won't ruin her life.

Men also traditionally dictate how the family is run. Asking permission from the parents to marry their daughter is a way to show respect for the parents & acknowledge their authority to be involved in their family matters if "things go out of hand".
