FireFade Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) It looks like Years & Years is done done this time. After his last album, Night Call (and his first solo project under the band's name), Olly is seemingly ready to move on. If you check on Spotify, all of the previous albums (and singes) have been moved to a new artist page, with his own name: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3ndzUh03qyl9TONYfSspqO - so the original Y&Y page is basically empty now (https://open.spotify.com/artist/5vBSrE1xujD2FXYRarbAXc). The Youtube channel has been renamed as well: https://www.youtube.com/@olly_alexander https://yearsandyears.com/ also redirects you. Thoughts? Are we here for the change? Will the Y&Y fans care? Why move all of their previously released music? UPDATE: Edited December 16, 2023 by FireFade
MatiRod Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 They were very much a band during Communion era so this is messy 12
ATRL Administrator Ryan Posted December 16, 2023 ATRL Administrator Posted December 16, 2023 Can he even do this legally? I mean I know he was always the frontman, but this is akin to Adam Levine putting all Maroon 5 music under his solo name. 7
東京. Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 yeah, no shxt this was coming tbh. i'm surprised it didn't after Palo Santo after he went solo with it all. that new picture isn't it though 1
Communion Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) Stealing the Spotify pages is kind of a ***** move ddd. As said, they were very much a band for the first 3-5 years of being together. Emre & Mikey were very much as part of it as Olly. Didn't Billie Joe Armstrong have his name listed as a 2nd artist on the band's music or something? Not sure why Olly couldn't have done similar. And I'm obviously not a hater given my now kinda disappointing username. Edit - Yeah, it seems to be whatever they put out with Polydor because the first few indie singles don't seem to be switching. FireFade Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) Yeah well, I'm surprised he didn't just start a solo career. I guess the following is already there for Y&Y so renaming everything was easier and will reach more people than starting from "zero," but this way it feels like they're erasing everything the band achieved together. They really shouldn't have touched their old music on Spotify. Edited December 16, 2023 by FireFade
ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted December 16, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2023 This seems wrong
Jukebox Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 It is kinda weird seeing as they were a band for a few of their albums, it’s like a Selena Gomez & the Scene situation and they still have their artist page don’t they? They should have just added him as a second artist to the tracks. Also mess at the songs being listed as Olly Alexander (Years & Years). This is all building up to his Eurovision debut im guessing. 2
pxxxtrick Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Not surprised he did that but this is wrong.
FireFade Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 videos are being renamed too, it's ugly (I'm guessing they will remove the Y&Y part after a while?) 2
BANKS Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) 1. after they semi-disbanded in 2021, Olly released a statement saying he and the other band members are still cool. i wonder if this remains true… maybe they supported this, even tho it appears shady. 2. i stopped liking Y&Y ever since Olly went solo. the music just wasn’t as good, imo. first 2 albums were incredible. 3. kinda irrelevant, but how famous is Olly and Y&Y in Europe and the UK (scale from 1 to 10)? i live in the US, so i can’t quite gauge. Pendulum Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 There are rumours Olly Alexander is representing the UK at Eurovision 2024. This rebranding is suspicious. 1
Revolution Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 their (his) music has been terrible since the other 2 left. we are not here for solo olly or his stealing of their old music. it is well known that the other 2 did not like palo santo (the only song they contributed to is the best song on the album). i think olly became too egotistical. 7
Heldenzeit Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 I'll always support this king, no matter the name. 1 1
xTurn Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 His last album was only him so It makes sense. I'm sure the band are ok with this, they will still get money for their previous work.
Raptus Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Who cares. Even UK stopped using him years ago. 1

Edibles. Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 They peaked with Communion. I’m sure the other two band members don’t care considering they’re still getting writer/production credit revenue, etc. It always felt like the Olly Alexander show anyways
Misguided Ghost Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 "Communion" truly is a no skip album, they went downhill from there - Palo Santo was cool, but their (his?) last effort was very weak. He's wrong for this imo. 3
Blue. Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 The first two albums should remain as Years & Years stuff and all the trash he has released solo be on its own page to not stain the band’s discography. 2
glitch Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 I don't understand what went wrong with them. He never should've gone solo, or he should've labelled it as a side project from the offset.
