Popular Post NOW Posted December 13, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2023 (edited) Quote Digital music downloads hit a new record with the surprise launch of Beyonce's latest album, exclusively on iTunes, with more than 800,000 copies sold in the first three days. Apple announced on Monday that the self-titled album from artist Beyonce reached 828,773 albums sold in just three days. It also broke the U.S. first-week album sales record with 617,213 copies sold domestically in the first seven days. The album, which can only be purchased through Apple's iTunes Store, was also a global success, reaching the No. 1. position in a total of 104 countries. https://appleinsider.com/articles/13/12/16/beyonces-itunes-exclusive-becomes-apples-fastest-selling-album-ever Original ATRL thread: https://classic.atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=473493 Quote BEYONCÉ provides a corrective to the year’s glut of pop tedium. By the time Bangerz, Prism, and ARTPOP were released in full, we’d already been beaten to a pulp by the ceaseless blitz of their promotional campaigns. The albums themselves seemed like afterthoughts, to the extent they had been thought of at all. Beyoncé waited for the last moment to unveil 2013′s finest pop album. It arrived too late to enter our top ten lists, but just in time to own the year. https://web.archive.org/web/20140120140505/http://prettymuchamazing.com/reviews/beyonce-beyonce Quote Beyoncé was unleashed upon the world in a way that could only succeed right now, with an aim to make the audience consume it the way it would have long ago. It’s a line that could be ripped straight from the mouth of an investment-drunk tech startup founder, but it’s true: Beyoncé seized the powers of a medium characterized by its short attention span to force the world to pay attention. Leave it to the posterchild of convention to brush convention aside and leave both sides feeling victorious. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/18821-beyonce-beyonce/ Quote Without playing into cheap “tortured by fame” tropes, she’s made an emotional album that’s dense and substantial but never difficult or self-important. “Beyoncé the impossible ideal” had a glorious run, but here “Beyoncé the real human” proves even more transfixing. https://www.avclub.com/beyonce-s-surprise-album-is-her-most-substantial-and-al-1798179012 Quote At its dizzying zenith, Beyoncé is a loaded fusion of generosity and self-empowerment. or perhaps, more accurately, it finds self-empowerment in generosity. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/60395/Beyonce-Beyonce/ Quote ‘Beyoncé’ is one of the best damn albums of 2013, basically, however you’re looking at it: as an R&B record, a pop set, an electro collection. Whatever your tastes, you can’t question the quality here – it’s just so easy to hear, to feel, whether you’ve a dozen LPs in your personal collection or several thousand, whatever your own frame of reference. https://www.clashmusic.com/reviews/beyonce-beyonce/ Edited December 13, 2023 by NOW 13 2
Homebrand Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Still her best album imo. Haunted, No Angel & Jealous have yet to be topped I fear 9
Gladiator Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 (edited) Huge moment. She had everyone talking about her and listening to that album, which is her best album. Edited December 13, 2023 by Gladiator 2
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 (edited) Literally shifted the culture Her best album XO remains one of her most underrated songs to date Edited December 13, 2023 by TalkThatRihanna 1
Goaty Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Partition and Haunted are still outstanding but most of the others have not aged well for me. If I'm reaching for a Beyonce album I'm grabbing Lemonade or RENAISSANCE, not this one. 2 1 3
DAP Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Partition and Haunted are still among her top ten best songs ever 4
Popular Post BrandNewBrandon Posted December 13, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2023 Literally changed the industry. The IFPI credited her for changing the international release day to Fridays and it has been like this ever since. Also kickstarted both the surprise album release but also the day-and-date single and album releases that were uncommon before. There's an industry before and after self-titled. A QUEEN. 21 1
FightDragonsWithMe Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Partition needs to pull a Cruel Summer. 3

dumbsparce Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 It was the cuntiest move in music history. The gag of all gags. And the quality was there too. I can't think of anything else that could be done to match the nerve she showed with this one. And I say that as a part-time OBH. 8 1
justin. Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 It’s her second best album (was her best until Renny came along). It truly changed the industry, and it’s a pop culture moment I’m so thankful I got to live through. 1
Proseductice Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 It was EVERYWHERE. Only thinking looking back, I wish I appreciated it when it debuted. Took me a while to really give it the flowers it deserved after the hype settled. 2

Girl, the woman was predicted by many to FLOP and do less than 100k but she did 1 MILLION in 10 days 1
Delirious Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Timeless album. Still my fave album by her

It took me YEARS to appreciate the experimental sounds and I’m so glad I love them now. I remember I thought Blue was a boring lazy filler track lol now it makes me cry. OnlyManInTheWorld Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 She was predicted to flop so had to do something so people would talk about her. 1 2 1 16
DamianSolo Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 This was such a bittersweet moment for me, since I was dealing with a loss in my family. But, when I was finally able to fully immerse myself in the album and the overall era—I was living it up. It was a grand moment overall; such a fun time! 2

I feel like she needed this release with the eighteen music videos for free because the quality wasn't there so she needed a gimmick. The album hasn't endured the test of time, it’s dated and very of its time. 5 1 2 20
James_Joint Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 The GP doesn’t remember the surprise release or mention it today any more than they do Rih’s 460 copies of Anti 2 2 1 6
Julián Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Her best album. Everything she put out after this paled in comparison. Love this record 1
