Raptus Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Why is Prince always grouped with Madonna/Mj? He was never as big as them and faded when the 80s ended. 1 1
ttsmu Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 (edited) Imagine how bad pop music must be right now, to have an artist like Taylor Swift as its biggest exponent. Congrats to her I guess Edited December 12, 2023 by ttsmu 3 1
Rune Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 A shame that the music doesn't explain the mystery. "Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo) Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)" 1

OT: Taylor is starting to become overexposed. Britney did a DNA test a few years ago and she apparently discovered she's not fully white
poki Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Hopefully people don't pull revisionist lies on her 2017-2019 years though. The stats look good now but back then it was a real mess, Folklore boosted her back to the top.
Cap87 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Will you all stop trying to compare this mediocre girl to Michael Jackson. She will never be on his level. 2 3 1

She's got big album numbers but none of her songs are that big and she has little cultural impact. Madonna had big album sales, several SMASH hits, big touring, the biggest impact on female pop. Per Bilboard yesterday "And it’s about looking at the current pop landscape and seeing Swift’s impact absolutely everywhere. It’s in the breakout of singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, who’s acknowledged that the pandemic-era acclaim for her Folklore and Evermore albums helped open a mainstream lane for his brand of alt-folk. It’s in the sophomore success of Olivia Rodrigo, who’s been following in the Taylor Swift career mold so well through her first three years of recording that she even just released an eerie Hunger Games ballad. It’s in the first-ever Hot 100 hits for obvious acolytes like Lizzy McAlpine and Gracie Abrams. It’s even in the recent triumphs of stars like Zach Bryan and SZA, whose musical trees don’t branch up to Swift, but who are certainly benefiting from the raised commercial ceiling she’s allowed for artists whose emphasis is first and foremost on detailed, personal songwriting." Hello came out at the end of 2015 and still managed to score a #7 placement on the year-end list one spot above Blank Space which had the whole year of sales. Also, Hello went to #1 in 32 countries, Blank Space went #1 in 7 countries. Taylor has never had a song as big as Poker Face or Hello. It's safe to say you're wrong. Hello has 4M more digital sales while Blank Space has 500M more streams AND it does 2M more daily. Blank Space is bigger and more remembered song indeed and numbers back that up. On 12/12/2023 at 7:23 AM, BrandNewBrandon said: Why is Taylor the next Madonna while Rihanna isn't when more people can name a Rihanna song than a Taylor song Because no one going to call an artist who struggles to debut at #1 with her albums or sell out arenas the next Madonna. Madonna was the Madonna because she smashed in every field from singles to albums to tours to acclaim unlike her peers. Taylor is more than only singles, just like Madonna. This is why she dominated hard enough to became POTY while Rihanna's singles weren't enough to make her shortlisted.
readytowind Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) No. Her disposable and quick produced forgettable songs are unknown to the world and the people even in the USA. Most people in my country don't even know her name. So I don't agree at all. Another pr article for the media to make her look bigger than she actually is. A desperate and pathetic attempt to make her look good. Edited December 17, 2023 by readytowind 3

baelani Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 She’s bigger than Michael I fear. Not as iconic since a random person in Zimbabwe wouldn’t know who she is, but bigger yes. NO artist has grossed as much as she just did on this historic eras tour

Are people really taking some puff piece that contains the sentence "Taylor Swift is Jesus" seriously?

The streaming data which didn't even exist in MJs time or the touring data in a completely different touring economy/world population? Do you have any idea what tickets cost in MJs time? I know you're desperate to prove Taylor Swift is something she isn't since her artistic legacy and cultural reach certainly don't suggest that but be serious and stop trying to compare apples and oranges. 2 3 1
slw84 Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Yes. It's hard to deny when you gross 1B on a tour. 1

Not a single wrong word. Completely agree. The king and queen of pop, mj and Madonna, have pioneered experimented and expanded the touring markets around the world since the 80s, an uncharted territory. After them the rest just follow their footsteps and basically copy and paste and benefit from what they already did. More respects to the king and queen of pop. Mj and Madonna forever.
!ngwe Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 How can she be more global to be named as Legend?
