olivethetree Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 She is both #1 and #2. #2 is the old taylor (before LWYMMD) and #1 is the new taylor (post LWYMMD) Top 2 and I’m both #1 and 2
Relampago. Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Yeah, I honestly think so. I wasn’t alive for MJ’s peak, but Taylor getting POTY is just insane. The way she’s shaped social, cultural, economic and even political landscapes this year is unprecedented imo. In reality, we’ll never know for sure, simply cause stardom in the 1980s is entirely different from stardom in the 2020s. What’s not deniable is that Taylor is 100% in the conversation for biggest peak ever, and that alone is incredible. 1
Beyonnaise Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I feel like what always happens in the conversation about celebrity billionaires is that, like many things, it centers people over systems and just becomes a Rorschach test about how you feel about the celebrity. It's used as another reason for people who don't like her to call her evil and for a sect of her stans to flaunt as an accomplishment. That feels like a really surface level analysis. Any sort of meaningful critique should really put that second. Billionaires "shouldn't exist" not because they all are terrible human beings who deserve scorn. It's because an economic system that allows so much wealth to be hoarded at the top by so few is just not a productive way to promote human prosperity, no matter how much these individuals have achieved. Taylor giving away 90% of her money tomorrow would do a lot of good for the world, but it wouldn't even begin to solve the issue. There should be much more aggressive taxation on anyone with a net worth over $100 million, for starters. 4

Yall know BTS is the biggest act ever in South Korea right? And probably the biggest K-pop group in the entire world ever. So by your logic Taylor Swift is the biggest USA and global artist ever.

Cameltoe Chariot Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Swifties get a personality that doesn't revolve around the financial domination of a person you'll never know challenge 1
Kristie Kuwa Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) So let me start off with the fact that Swifts success is irrefutably gigantic. Thats a fact. Her domination is literally crazy. Yes, she obviously appeals to some people with her writing and music, without a doubt. Her immense success however poses the question: What exactly makes her so special that she's oblitarating her competition so much? I came to the conclusion that the society in the 21st century faces more Depression than ever due to a combination of political issues, environmental issues, societal expectations, etc.. there's no stability in the world (with a peak of Instability during the pandemic) and I feel like this feeling is also carried over to music. While we had the golden 70s which was reflected in the music of that time being very upbeat, the 90s/00s favored the idea of growth and expansion and hopefulness as seen by the stars of that time. People wanted to strive for more, for glamour, for perfection. There was a sense of "keep working on yourself and you become a better Version of yourself, which is the goal of life". Id argue that in the past 15 years, this has shifted. More and more, the new generation feels like this sentiment is the reason for their depression- they cant deal with the expectations of always being better because their parents have already achieved a lot. They are afraid of the future, they dont know if perfecting their craft actually means having a better life or just more working hours aka enslavement. Or if its all for nothing. Its quite nihilistic at its core. And here you have Taylor, a mediocre singer who happens to be good at poetry and words reaching this crazy success. Shes not good at singing, shes not good at dancing, not good at putting on a show, yet her success trumps anyone by FAR. Other examples of singers benefitting from this sentiment are Billie and Lana. I feel like theres a correlation - people see themselves in her and become.more hopeful cause if she can do it with her level of skill, then maybe not everything is doomed. Do you agree? I really find it fascinating how little she is able to do in comparison to how crazy her success is. I remember that shady remark Cher used to make towards Madonna back in the day, but Taylor is a whole other level of "mediocre" (in my opinion) Would love to hear your opinion. The success is super interesting to study imho Edited December 6, 2023 by Kristie Kuwa 1 7

I never see a thread about a song, a video or performance (mostly because they're mid) just threads about her being the biggest and selling the most SPS (whatever that is). Okay, you have the biggest one. Do you feel better now? Sis we talk about her music and performances all the time it’s just contained within specific threads like the base or tour megathreads. she’s shattering records on a near weekly basis, of course they’re going to get threaded. And there are threads made to discuss her music, they just don’t get the traffic and attention the sales and chart performance threads get because people love on this website love to fight “is Taylor out peaking Madonna?” Is obviously going to generate more discussion than “what’s your top 5 of evermore?” Edited December 6, 2023 by Goaty
Joyride Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 should we spam Tate McRae instead? are you ready to Run for The Hills?

Asscatchem Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 i cant even get the mods to separate the kpop thread into 2.
GlamSlam Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 People that say MJ's peak was around the time of Thriller clearly don't know the facts, and just saying Thriller because it was a big selling album. In reality, his peak was between 1987 to 88 (around the time of Bad, the tour and "Moonwalker". 1

ugo Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I guess Kim is trying to stay relevant Post KUWTK but it's hard because she is ageing. She also uses North Tiktok to stay relevant these days But yes Taylor won
SlimyGhoul Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) I truly do not think she cares at all in any way. EDIT: As far as the 2016 wars, it's been established that everything Taylor said in her infamous notes app post was true and that Kim was omitting information about it on purpose. I think it's time to move on from that debacle. Kim and moreover Kanye have much more pressing things to deal with, clearly. Edited December 6, 2023 by SlimyGhoul forgot to add in some stuff
