vale9001 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) it's not a mystery the pop industry male executives build female careers on "male gaze", so sex about pop hooks. Some of these girls (Madonna, Gaga, Beyoncè, Janet for example) make it political and they use that in a positive way and if they are talented and smart enough can win against industry attempt to "eliminate" them for new fresh meat (even if the industry still decrease their space). Some girls are just puppets and they don't have any shield to save themselves when their time is over. Cause it's important to know "selling sex" and being "yes man" to the industry it's not always freedom, it's not so simplicistic but way more complex when it's about jobs, money and structure of power in the hands of men. They only care about money, when they smell there is someone they can make more money with yeah they will work to undermine you. Every pop girls has crossed this moment. Revolution Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Quote I realized every record label was actively working to try to replace me,” she says. “I thought instead, I’d replace myself first with a new me. It’s harder to hit a moving target.”
KatyPrismSpirit Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Yes but because taylor says it its empowering but when nicki said it she was villainized and called bitter. double standards and peep the difference between when a black woman calls this out vs a white woman 3 3 1
Joyride Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Kelsea Balllerini? tf do I know you tell us @Taylor Swift
Gelato Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I don't doubt that she's made enemies along the way in the music industry and that there are people who wanted (or still want) to see her downfall, but I'm not sure if every record label CEO is spending their time wondering how they can launch an artist that will knock Taylor off her perch and turn her into a flop. It's not a zero sum game - executives might identify a lot of features in Taylor that they'd like a new signing to have, but it doesn't come at the expense of Taylor's own success. Lots of successful artists can co-exist. Being the blueprint is flattering. 3

She's massive but I feel like to be in Madonna's league you need to have SALES, HITS, ICONIC MOMENTS, IMPACT and Taylor checks of mostly the first box. She also doesn't have that massive of a peak compared to her peers (Adele, Lady Gaga), doesn't have the amount of smash hits (Rihanna) and acclaim/impact (Beyoncé) and that's only her own generation. And comparing her current sales to those of past MPGs is also utterly unfair considering Madonna had, for example, 100 million listeners all in all but only 20 million of them bought an album that gave her revenue and counted towards her all time sales whereas nowadays Taylor can have 100 million all in all and 99 percent of them will count as revenue and towards her overall sales. I think Taylor might be the new Mariah. For those who lived through the 2000s know that Mariah stans were claiming she was the Queen of Pop only to have people outside of Anglosphere say that Whitney, Celine and Madonna were much bigger (which they were) and Mariah fans were mocked for her being a bit "local" compared to the others. And then all those discounted singles she did to go #1 because she was (and is) very into charts. Taylor is not as big as her peers outside of Anglosphere AND she's been dragged for her discounts and remixes. Add to that, both are known to be the most skilled songwriters of their generation and known for writing their own material. Taylor could be the new Mariah. Anyone living outside of Anglosphere could tell you that Taylor is not as massive. Sure she has the biggest tour of all time but so did U2 for YEARS but that doesn't mean they were bigger than Michael Jackson and Madonna either. I don't get the constant fixation on Taylor being this or that. Especially from her fans that don't like it if you say she isn't THE biggest pop star of all time, which she is obviously not. It's incredibly arrogant. The delusion Her music is as acclaimed as Beyoncé's now (Red TV and 1989 TV are in the 90s on MC just like Renaissance and Lemonade). Her peak is bigger than both Gaga's and Adele's (she is moving more units than them and this tour is bigger than anything those two could ever dream of doing combined) No amount of whining and crying on a forum of gay people will change this 1

Just because people care enough to actually buy her music does not make her BTS'd 1
Buffy Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) None of their attempts worked if they really did try . In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the OTH, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slaylor. Edited December 6, 2023 by Buffy 1 1 1 3

If you "feel" All too Well *chuckle* is an iconic pop hit because of "units" then you are clearly operating in bad faith or are not in touch with pop culture. I guess Butter or whatever that BTS song was is really bigger than Billie Jean. They are iconic to the younger generation just as those Madonna songs are iconic to the older generation. The younger gen (outside of gay people) do not know 99% of Madonna's catalog. I love her, but she has not transitioned as well as some of her peers. Many of her peers have ginormous streaming classics while she does not Love Story, You Belong With Me, Shake It Off, Blank Space, etc. are all very well known by people, are critically appreciated and have great recurrent stats Not to mention the entire conversation around owning one's work, "(Taylor's Version)," Eras, stimulating an economy on the verge of recession, etc. I know some of you like to act like the new girls can't hold a candle to the girls of yesteryear like Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Mariah, etc and for the most part that is true. But there are exceptions, and Taylor is the biggest one

vale9001 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 It's a general assumption. After a peak they want fresh meat for a specific space and women really feel like people in the industry start to try to sabotage you with several micro acts (we can say they made the same to Katy when Taylor went pop, cause she was youngest than Katy and new in the genre).
