Is Beyonce in the top 3 best performers of all time?

Well, there’s no true objective way to rank them outside of ability.

Dancing + Singing, she’s certainly #1 and only Tina Turner (one of her influential idols) would compare fully. Include stage presence, theatrics, concept, energy, et. (more abstract criteria) and she’s without a doubt top 10. I would think Madonna, Tina, Freddie, Michael, Prince, James, and Elvis as concrete top 7. Probably Whitney in there as well. ATRL doesn’t give her enough credit for her showmanship, stage presence and she did dance at times and well. She is usually in the convo for the GP.

Beyoncé is constantly compared and argued against MJ who is considered the greatest. I think it’s reasonable for her to be considered #1 since nostalgia is strong in music and she’s literally the only modem artist to be constantly in the conversation at such a high regard and no one (amongst the general public) says she shouldn’t be there regardless of the overhyped arguments. It’s at least easy to say that with Madonna and Michael, she’s in the top 3 for popstars as considered on their level or surpassed them in many ways.

There’s something to be said about her electrifying stage presence.. Outside of the awesome showmanship, she has this incredible charisma that engulfs the stage every time she starts performing..

it’s magnetic in a way that you literally can’t take your eyes off her. She jus has this indescribable X factor that surpasses the individual facets of her skill set that makes the way she entertains so thrilling to watch. Even when there’s singers/dancer/instrumentalists that are better than her the way she does everything at once with that level of execution and finesse.. there’s nothing quite like it.

Posted

Madonna

Michael Jackson

So, no Beyoncé is not in there but at least performers she was inspired by are.

Beyoncé is the best of all time objectively. Most of the legends are just helped by nostalgia. MJ is great but he mostly lip sync while bey mostly sings live even if she uses back track. Don’t even get me started on Madonna, bey is a way better performer .
Yes, Madge does have the larger than life stage and all but when you strip them to that bear minimum and give both a mic , Bey will outperform her. Bey can sing !!! .

beyonce is the only one that can go from top tier vocal performance such as stevie wonders Grammy tribute , belting at last, Glastonbury beautiful ones and sex on fire performance, to full energetic performance like the two vma medleys ( her mic was on), coachella, bet awards freedom performance, etc.

Bey is an all rounder performer in a much better way than the others ever were!

She’s the best ever. She’s extremely balanced with huge productions to back her up that she really doesn’t need bc she can entertain just as well with just a mic and does it all in heels

Michael Jackson only started lipsyncing after he was diagnosed with an autoimmune prior to that he mostly had his mic on,go watch his bad tour or victory tour and no shade Beyonce lipsyncs too.

MJ, Tina Turner, Madonna, Janet, Arashi, Perfume, Paula Abdul ( This performance destroys all of her performance).

Performers are more about immersion and combination of all elements. While I love Beyonce as a performer, she isn't in the top 5 of the best performer, maybe top 15. You don't need to sing live to be a great performer, singing is only 1/5 of performing.

Not the girl that destroyed her own career with 1 performance :rip: After that night she  became a laughing stock, kinda like Katy durning Witness.

She's definetly in the top 5, possibly top 3- her skill in dance, singing, storytelling and purpose is unparalleled among her generation and she showcases her dedication to herself, her music and her audience each time she steps on a stage. I wouldnt give her #1 due to the fact that she is building off the legacy of those who came before her with less technical advantages and with a bit less star power (with that being just against MJ himself). As overall performers, my top five is

Tina Turner

MJ

Beyonce/James Brown

Janet

Madonna

You mean the performance where critics were more focused on her body and due to how she wanted to play with gender. Maybe do your research next time as why this performance was panned. It was not a bad performance; it is just that was the age of body-shaming and tearing down women for trying something new. and not having a barbie thin body

Beyonce, Madonna, and Janet imo are the top three female performers ever.

:heart2:

And I am talking throughout all their careers.

Just amazing.

Celine Dion is a great performer despite not doing choreos.

Why can't we be fans of more than one performer though?

I would say top 5/10 for sure but we have to account for James Brown, MJ, Prince, Madonna, Janet, Usher and Tina Turner. And I’m sure there are others but my mind is blanking. Out of these people I would rank her like maybe 4 or 5. To round out the type 10 I would throw in Britney, Chris Brown (I can’t stand him), Gaga and Shakira. That’s 12 but you get my point.

I think something a lot of these performers mentioned lack (and performers mentioned this thread in general so: read this not just as a reply to you specifically but my entry to the thread) is Beyoncé's ability to inject performances with meaning and translate that into impact.

A Chris Brown performance, an Usher performance, and perhaps a few others have never come close to the artistry present in Homecoming, where she took live performance and made it also performance art, where the staging of songs didn't just mean "here's a fun little night" or "look how well I dance" but which had implications reaching far beyond the evening, the venue, or the performance itself. She's able to make her performances double as both entertainment and intellect, and that's a superpower not many performers have, if not because they just don't approach music in that way, but because there is a fine balance between doing so and making it schmaltzy or heavy-handed.

The Coachella performance achieved its goals by allowing the audience to fill in blanks. It's the song selection, it's the orchestration, it's the way they dance, it's the staging, it's the things Beyoncé does at the helm that all paint a very clear picture without her having to spell it out...and while this goes outside the realm of just "performance talent", it is without a doubt something that sets Beyoncé apart as a performer, because as the leader she is thinking about all this and making sure that the final performance carries her message successfully and with a lot of entertainment value. THAT is what makes her, despite many talented performers existing, easily in the Top 3.

The Lemonade era particularly was the best example of this as a whole with Formation at the Super Bowl, Freedom at the BET Awards, Daddy Lessons at the CMAs, (to a lesser extent) 6 Inch at the Tidal event, and then capping it off with pure artistry on display with Love Drought/Sandcastles at the Grammys, which may be the most "heavy handed" of them all, but doing so through poetry/spoken word and then true dynamic beauty, she made it a serious artistic achievement.
