Has Shakira surpassed Madonna longevity wise?

Recommended Posts

Shakira has been consistently getting successful singles and albums since 1995 (28 years)

Madonna lasted from 1983 to 2009 (26 years)

Of course Madonna is way more successful overall but is Shakira officially the new queen of longevity? Discuss.

Shakira stayed in her lane and to her ethnic audience so in a way she’s had it way easier, Madonna has stayed in the most competitive lane there is for anyone to venture into so Madonna’s trajectory will always be more impressive.

No, in the same way that Cher or Brenda Lee didn't surpass Madonna's longevity either. Madonna was consistently successful and ever-present for 25+ years.

No. Shakira is just a better trend hopper and thief. Every single one of her hits since the last decade have been collaborations/features.

In Latin America sure

Everywhere else, no.

Shakira didn’t break out globally until 2001 and is far from a consistent hitmaker in Europe let alone the U.S, Asia and Oceania.

Same for Shakira tho. Both had ups and downs (let’s not forget American Life and Erotica) but none of them truly bombed. Even at her lowest Shakira managed to get hits (She Wolf, Can’t Remember to Forget You, Dare).

Madonna is way bigger worldwide, but Shakira is like Jesus Christ in Latin America. There has not been a single week when I didn't hear one of her songs on the radio, people talking about her, people watching her videos. It's actually scary because she has come to a point where she cannot be overexposed here, because people are already used to her omnipresence.

But yeah, Madonna had a wayyy bigger impact in the world, so she's still the queen of longevity.

Whenever Wherever, Underneath your Clothes and Objection were all big, but everything else has been duets or features or only local hits.

Madonna is not Latina. So invalid question.

Oh did you know that madonnas past manager Freddy demand got fired and joined Shakira and his goal was to make her the Latin madonna??

Madonna is still the best selling female artist in brazil and Latin countries. She will do again when announced a South American leg with this tour.

Her longevity is still valid. Watch out

And then funnily enough Shakira then fired him after one era, Laundry Service.

Shakira has mostly had consistent smashes in Latin America. Madonna was smashing around the world during her time. Either way both are impressive and literally anyone would kill for their careers

Yes.

No, Madonna had consistent success throughout those 28 years while Shakira did not. If you’re considering some of those Shakira eras as “hits”, then that must mean MDNA was a smash considering it debuted at #1 with 350k copies, had a top 10 Hot 100 hit, a recording breaking Super Bowl, and the second highest grossing tour of all time (at the time) behind her own Sticky and Sweet tour.

why is this forum so obsessed with people surpassing madonna :deadbanana2:

Because other girls stans know msdonna is the biggest and queen. They just can't get over her reign. And jealous.

Her status won't change.

It's cemented and her pioneering in pop music and culture will be forever untouchable.

Their obsessions are boring and predictable as hell.

Girl pls that 1995 Shakira album sold less units than Hard Candy or even MDNA. Shakira truly became a big name in 2001 and had a flop album in 2014.

Its not about years but also different culture eras

Madonna was the symbol of the 80s era

The most famous woman in the world during the 90s

Pretty much the queen of media in the 2000s

and even 2010s she has been the biggest legacy act

Also Madonna has openned the doors for artist to have that longevity as now what Jlo does is normal but Madonna at 40/50 was unheard of a older popstar
