Madonna lasted from 1983 to 2009 (26 years)

Of course Madonna is way more successful overall but is Shakira officially the new queen of longevity? Discuss.

Shakira stayed in her lane and to her ethnic audience so in a way she’s had it way easier, Madonna has stayed in the most competitive lane there is for anyone to venture into so Madonna’s trajectory will always be more impressive.

Shakira didn’t break out globally until 2001 and is far from a consistent hitmaker in Europe let alone the U.S, Asia and Oceania.

Same for Shakira tho. Both had ups and downs (let’s not forget American Life and Erotica) but none of them truly bombed. Even at her lowest Shakira managed to get hits (She Wolf, Can’t Remember to Forget You, Dare).

No. Both are queens in their own lanes but Madonna was a trailblazer and continues to be the blueprint for most popstars. What Shakira has done very well is transition into the streaming/social media era and has managed to conquer newer generations wich is one thing Madonna lacks. Either way at the end of the day both will be remembered as having some of the longest relavance among females in the pop world along with Bey.

Madonna is way bigger worldwide, but Shakira is like Jesus Christ in Latin America. There has not been a single week when I didn't hear one of her songs on the radio, people talking about her, people watching her videos. It's actually scary because she has come to a point where she cannot be overexposed here, because people are already used to her omnipresence. 

 

But yeah, Madonna had a wayyy bigger impact in the world, so she's still the queen of longevity.

Shakira has mostly had consistent smashes in Latin America. Madonna was smashing around the world during her time. Either way both are impressive and literally anyone would kill for their careers

If you’re considering some of those Shakira eras as “hits”, then that must mean MDNA was a smash considering it debuted at #1 with 350k copies, had a top 10 Hot 100 hit, a recording breaking Super Bowl, and the second highest grossing tour of all time (at the time) behind her own Sticky and Sweet tour.

Pretty much the queen of media in the 2000s

and even 2010s she has been the biggest legacy act

 

 

Also Madonna has openned the doors for artist to have that longevity as now what Jlo does is normal but Madonna at 40/50 was unheard of a older popstar
