If you think that Taylor Swift was named Person of the Year because of her commercial success, you are literally not paying attention.

You think Taylor Swift would have been named Person of the Year if you take away her record breaking commercial success? :toofunny3:

I would never give this for her music or her success as an artist.

I would give this because of her positive influence on American youth. I mean, the amount of new voters that registered thanks to her is a a huge feat, and a win for democracy.

People are complaining about her silence over the Palestine situation, but the root of that problem is also America, constantly funding this war.

Idk why you guys are highlighting the negative winners of this title as if it’s supposed to demean it. The Hitlers and the Trumps are just as historically relevant as the MLKs and the Ghandis. For better or worse, they altered the trajectory of human history. Taylor Swift being in that company, both the greats and the evils, is one of the most impressive accomplishments I’ve ever witnessed in my 15 years of being a fan. AOTY at the Grammys is just musicians. Touring is just for entertainers. POTY awards technological, political, and historical figureheads of the utmost relevance.

Good thing I didn't mention Hitler and Trump. I mentioned Elon Musk, who's an irrelevant crybaby who accomplished nothing and invented nothing and who will be remembered as a clown with ridiculous ideas who nosedived the most influential form of social media ever created. It's not about evilness, it's about relevancy.

I'm not putting Taylor down, I'm lifting her up, and you fail to recognize that because you're too focused on people who are legitimately hating on every single one of her achievements. This is not an important moment in Taylor's career because she's way, way bigger than Time magazine, which in light of all her other achievements is wholly irrelevant. It's the cover of a magazine.

ATRL's hate against Tayloris getting so annoying. Y'all are nothing and won't be able to bring her down with your annoying posts 24/7 no matter what. Can you guys please chill?

Time POTY is obviously a much bigger deal than a Grammy or an Oscar. It's closer to a  Peace Nobel Prize than to those.

People comparing being named Time’s Person of the Year to winning the Nobel Peace Prize

Let them fume a bit, all they have are ATRL and Fauxmoi as their safe-spaces. :chick3:

is leagues away from having the attributes or achievements comparable to winning a Nobel Peace Prize.

I’m aware that you are diminishing Time’s significance, not demeaning Taylor. I’m also aware that Elon Musk is overall, a loser. But he’s still a historically significant figure, albeit on a smaller scale than some previous winners. I’m not trying to -overstate- TIME’s importance but I’m also not about to act like this isn’t a more -unique- achievement than her music & entertainment centered accomplishments. We can disagree on the prestige of it but at the end of the day it is a VERY unique title.

This has got to be her worst interview ever. She came off terribly. :rip: The narcissism and immaturity, and then the coddling by the journalist...it all felt like a parody.

The interview is about her getting Person Of The Year. Did you expect her to talk about anything else?

You can talk about your career and yourself without coming off narcissistic.

So being proud of your achievements and accolades is now being narcissistic? Can you pin point the exact sentence that made you go "oh wow, she's being full of herself"?

It’s like reading someone’s autobiography and saying they’re egotistical. Like, that’s the whole point of a profile :rip: it’s to talk about YOUR individual peaks and valleys, to focus on yourself and your story.

It's really not that relevant. Most people aren't even aware of what it is. This isn't the 80s or the 90s anymore, how many people are even subscribed to Time magazine? Who's eagerly awaiting for this every year? Until I saw the announcement of who was in the running (two days ago, by Time magazine) I'd forgotten this was even a thing. It's not like stans argue about who will get this coveted award or that it's going to be talked about after... today.

Elon Musk got it in 2021. It's just... not that big of a deal.

If stans argue about something, that’s basically a clear sign of it being totally irrelevant in the real world :rip: Time Person of the Year is reported on literally everywhere
