barbiegrande Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Honestly, I still maintain a decade later that Roar is a bad song. I don’t understand why it was so popular other than it was literally designed to be used in a Super Bowl ad or movie montage. Applause wasn’t groundbreaking for Gaga, but it was a lot catchier imo. Katy kind of had a Taylor like appeal about her at the time though, and Gaga’s brand of theatrics wasn’t cool anymore 1
Digitalism Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 All of the monsters acting like they don't live in the past because Applause was a big a flop but we all know they are stuck between 2008 and 2011 Both are fads 2 2

That Nicki Minaj Barbie song is just as cheesy and that performed well. That being said, Applause is way better, but Katy had the momentum at the time. Greatest time on this site ever.
BraveNewSeth Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Roar was obviously bigger commercially, but it’s also one of those songs that’s so generic it’s almost painful.
