teenager Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 If anything from recent times, it’s Justin Bieber or The Weeknd. Preferably the latter.

I guess in the latino parts of the world its true, but elsewhere? Not happening Same. I know his name because of ATRL and social medias but I don’t think I’ve ever heard his music nor his name irl
Marry The Gods Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Forbes is out of pocket for this one. There's just no comparison MJ is always going to be the king of pop just like Madonna will always be the queen of pop. 5
kexin Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) where is the lie lmao mind you, ATRLers are already claiming Tate is heading towards MPG status Edited November 28, 2023 by kexin
Phaunzie Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 The Weeknd is literally right there, like he even has controversy (a huge aspect of being the king and queen of pop). 1
AvadaKedavra Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) First of all. The King of Latin Pop Is the Gay Icon Ricky Martin. He was the one makin the international crossover thing possible with Livin la Vida Loca and he was so powerful Second. Bad Bunny is a Reggaeton/Trap Singer mainly? Pop hmm? Maybe some songs are pop influenced but thats it. Bad Bunny is the Prince of reggaeton. The King is Daddy Yankee. Third One. This feels disrespectful to Michael Jackson He's the eternal king of Pop. No one will match him. All the new singers today feel too basic or like one level below compared to Michael artistry-talent. No biebs. No timberlake. no bruno. no the weekend. im sorry dahlings. Four one. Bad Bunny is actually not that big anymore here in Latinoamerica. The Throwin fans Cellphone situation. Dating Kendall Jenner (This One Specially destroyed him so much). His insensitive tone deaf comments about racism in that interview. His Jealousy-Shade to Colombian artists like Karol g and Shakira and Jbalvin. His recent attacks to his fans for that AI thing. How his career was backed with venezuelan dictatorship money. New strong artists like Peso Pluma or Bizarrap takin over. He doesnt feel as the large titanic figure of the early 2020s. He digged his own grave with problematic behaviour. He was the largest star in the planet at one point In one year he destroyed his reputation Edited November 28, 2023 by AvadaKedavra 1
Breathe On Moi Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 unfortunately Bieber was the closest to that “title” due to his numbers, and I really mean unfortunately.
liquiddiamonds Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 His new album is already out of the top 10. It spent less weeks there than GUTS, which this forum screams left and right it’s a sophomore slump. It will overtake Bad Bunny next week 👀 I wonder where are the bases threads coming for his underperformance… 1

Trent W Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) 1- He is not pop 2- Not even in Latin America 3- He doesn’t have any single track that is WW known or an instant classic. All his tracks are very in the moment, after a couple years he replaces them with something else. And Im a casual listener, I like him, but these titles are ridiculous The only one that could fit in the category muabe is The Weeknd, but still a reach. Edited November 28, 2023 by Trent W 1
More Than A Melody Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 1. There is no new king of pop. Just stop trying to find a new king of pop. It's such a lazy headline 2. He's not famous anywhere outside of Latin America. I'm from Chile, he's huge here, but even if the title was up for grabs, it wouldn't go to someone who isn't known outside of a very small fraction of the music market 3. He doesn't even do actual pop music. Stop lumping in reggaetón and Latin trap with pop. Give Latin sounds the spot they deserve in the industry instead of just putting them in a completely unrelated box so you don't have to think about them

This is one of the reasons why i disagree with people who are like................Latin artists should only release spanish songs. Thats enough for them today Is not. Cause Spanish music is mostly listened by our latino audiences. To have a worldwide hit with stronger power u need english music. To be listened by all the audiences-ethnicities and have a higher chance of chartin higher. In Northamerica-Europe-Asia......... U can get big hits with spanish music but u dont get the same recognition or they dont get same chart traction Someone as Karol G or Rosalia dont get the same recognition or love of someone like Olivia Rodrigo-Bilie-Dua Lipa-Doja Cat even if they have strong hits Liked or Not English is the language of the planet and the major language of the United States Of America. Shakira is the star she is..........cause she released all those english songs like Waka Waka-Hips-She Wolf-Whenever Wherever-Cant Remember-Beautiful Liar-Girl Like Me Without those songs she would be like 20x times less famous Im A Latino From Southamerica. So, according to people today i just have to speak in spanish and thats it. I dont want gatekeepers No. Im here on ATRL speaking in english and traslating my ideas to a more global audience cause even if i love my culture deeply...i dont wanna stay in a bubble I want the whole cake sugarcubes Of course thats not easy. My first ATRL posts were scary to me :emofish im still scared sometimes of my awful grammar and messy writing lol I feel bad for bad bunny but he will be dragged extra hard for this People hate when labels are disrespected. If im not wrong Bieber was called King of Pop too in the past and there was big backlash These magazines are settin them up seriously............ Here the labels of everyone on wikipedia. Check it out yll. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honorific_nicknames_in_popular_music Lets see if your fave is queen or king of something Edited November 28, 2023 by AvadaKedavra 2

Paky McGee Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Everything about him seems so Matrix to me. I mean, I used to listen to Un Verano Sin Ti album previous year, bit this Forbes thing is a little bit pretentious.
