Graves Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 11 x 2 (Take Me Apart, bestfiction) HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 4 (Curaga, scenekiller, Cruel Summer, confide in me) LOWEST SCORE: 6 x 1 (Hey Dude) MY SCORE: 7.5 It may have taken almost ten years, but the fourth Evangelion Rebuild film had to come out eventually. Truly, nobody but Utada could do a theme for it either - and considering the previous themes they'd done for the series... they really had to bring something top notch for this closing chapter. Inspired by feelings of finality, that all things need an ending eventually, Hikaru collaborated with A.G Cook on One Last Kiss, the brilliant song in question. This one is so pretty. It sounds like a culmination of emotion. Starting off so soft and fragile, a state that could shatter into a million pieces with one slight movement. As it lumbers on, it grows more impactful and assured, with Hikaru's vocals reverberating behind her. Growing and growing in intensity until... it just washes over and finishes quietly, little fanfare. Gone as quickly as it began. Undoubtedly one of Hikaru's biggest modern hits, One Last Kiss is their second most streamed song, and their first Oricon #1 single since 2007! (Kind of. Technically. idk.) It's great to see them score actual massive hits 20+ years later. The video isn't half bad either, eh? It was March 2021, so for a lockdown-era homemade affair it's pretty neat! Hikki and their friends headed to Brighton to just film some footage and the Evangelion film director put together a great video out of it. They look really beautiful in the vid Curaga is enamored: "Really pretty and catchy — light and airy despite the deep bass synth/drum thing. This song is what a kaleidoscope would sound like imo." Stan Kelis. 11-giver, bestfiction believes that "Utada and A. G. made some real magic on this one." 1
Cruel Summer Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Maybe we’ll get a surprise and it’ll be Somewhere Near Top Ten
Cruel Summer Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Never mind, my disappointment is immeasurable, OLK deserved #1
Ewan Chaos Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Oh I forgot this was still in sorry to the 11 givers hdsihdoshiodhsiod Great song though!! Not mad at it missing the t10 tho
Graves Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Automatic Sakura Drops traveling 光 / Simple & Clean Keep Tryin' Passion / Sanctuary Ore no Kanojo Bad Mode Kimi ni Muchū Somewhere Near Marseilles Who will win? Tune in tomorrow for the grand finale reveal. 1 1
Suilen Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Oh, that's just her. Anyway, 5 different albums in top 10, I'd say I'm quite happy about that (even if the fear that a certain song might prevail remains).

Graves Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 thx for tuning in my ladies, I'm going to go make dinner, plan reveals, and listen to a non-Hikaru J-diva for a change 5
Suilen Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Well, I think it all went quite well today and it wasn't just me and Curaga serving that video where three guys dance to Kelis's Milkshake. Excited for tomorrow's update! 2

I would have put OLK in the top 10 over Automatic, but there are only 2 songs in the top 10 that I didn’t give 10s to! Overall, not a bad top 10 at all! Sooooo excited for tomorrow
Graves Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 & guess this means we all like kingdom hearts more than evangelion huh
Ewan Chaos Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Ideal top 10 I think: 10. Keep Tryin' 9. Kimi ni Muchū 8. Automatic 7. Sakura Drops 6. 光 / Simple & Clean 5. Ore No Kanojo 4. Somewhere Near Marseilles 3. Passion / Sanctuary 2. Bad Mode 1. Traveling But I am preparing for a Marseilles win and most of my preferred top songs to leave first 1

Yeah I'm afraid the two of us were not enough to balance off the onslaugh of praise for that one. Hopefully a song from her pre-hiatus albums wins. Maybe if Kimi ni Muchu pulls through I wouldn't be too mad although that's not happening.
Ewan Chaos Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I'm surprised no one seemed to sabotage at least one of the two main Kingdom Hearts song actually I guess people taking their anger out on the KH3 songs was enough.
Bubble Tea Posted January 30 Posted January 30 "Bad Mode" deserves the #1 I fear. That late career MEGA triumph of a song phew, no other artist could ever I'm kinda shook "Blue" didn't make top 10 Thank god "Keep Tryin'" is. 1

Who said the top ten didn't have sabotage tho? The lowest score we saw today was a 4. ...There's lower coming tomorrow. ... 1

Yeah, if the recency bias should have any say in determining the winner, then I hope it's Kimi ni Muchuu. 1

I sabotaged them mentally (by giving them high-ish scores and secretly hoping that people won't let nostalgia blind them).

Cruel Summer Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Bad Mode being top ten is… what do we like about that song over One Last Kiss and Pink Blood, again? 1

Classy, yet playful and fun, maybe even a little unserious, great vocals, great instrumental, just amazing overall — really a journey of a song. Here’s a diazepam we can each take half of!! The way my jaw dropped when I realized she was actually saying diazepam and I wasn’t mishearing 1 1 1
