Are people too negative and serious nowadays?

Recommended Posts

On social media people express all of their opinions freely and can use it to vent. We know that there is lots of hatred online. But it seems like in general nowadays people like to cringe and drag people who just have fun or try something new and may fail. it is like the modern attitude is to sit back, do nothing yourself, but cringe at others and discourage them from trying new things. If it is not perfect, it is invalid :dancehall3: And self-deprecating humor is fun, but have you tried treating yourself like your best friend (in a good way)? Are people taking themselves too seriously nowadays? Do we live in a culture of perfectionism that leads to negativity? Discuss :cm:

Yes, we all need a daily those of goofiness which I happily provided with my threads before I got thread-banned.

@May you need to pump out silly threads daily.

social media kinda caused this behavior.

social media influenced 80s/90s babies to be more critical on themselves esp when comparing to ppl/celebs the same age doing better + any behavior 80s/90s kids displayed as fun or silly society instantly labelled them as “weird” or etc. which forced that gen into maturity; then influenced the younger gen that life is fun & imperfections are more accepted now – which is looked down on and viewed as cringe if they do too much.

ultimately social media has raised anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts worldwide.

unfortunately i am also thread banned but i miss the era of us and our goofy threads :(

i agree ppl take themselves way too seriously . I kinda don’t allow ppl in my life like that . I think there’s a beauty to maintaining some of ur childhood goofiness and just being able to let loose and be unapologetically silly

Yeah I’m tired of “cringing.” I’m ready to start living. People that find everything cringeworthy are going to die alone and be eaten by their dogs.

Everyone is so hateful nowadays. Filled with hatred and complaints. Even criticism is full of drags and venom.

I’m kind of tired of the the whole “asteroid can hit so we can end this” kind of humor

The 2020s are rough ngl, but humanity has been through worse and people are just too negative

A lot of people forget that we do live in the most advanced and comfortable era of humanity.

I get venting, but a lot of people have made this their entire personality

I think what you are refering to has always been a thing, no? The oppressive system we all live under makes people attack others when they stand out, unless they have money/influnce/power of course and even then those people will also get attacked often. Maybe social media has magnified that.

Honestly this stuff is why I have always felt super uncomfortable about having any kind of social media presence. I am from a time when it was super taboo to be gay in middle/high school so since then I have been (or at least try to be) very aware of myself and my actions and at times it has been very stiffling ngl. That was also compounded by my ADHD as well since that can and has lead me into being stupidly impulsive at times and also have some ''outside the box'' ideas and thoughts. I just avoid social media in general because I do not like the energy, the comparing yourself to others and the pressure that brings to you. I low key hate it.

Yes. 100%. It’s not even a debate

and I blame social media post pandemic, unprecedented inflation and wage disparities, and other social economic reasons for people being miserable 24/7. Even when it comes to entertainment and leisure time. People just moan and complain about everything that it takes you out of enjoying the little moments you do have away from work and stress.

Millenials shouldnt take for granted the time they had growing up in their teens and early 20's. Times were much more open.Art and entertainment was so much more interesting and avant garde. Television and other media challenged what was accepted. We saw the introduction of media like Family Guy and Grand Theft Auto. Reality television that never took itself seriously. Social Media was more about showing your individuality than getting any kind of likes. Music was constantly changing and everyone had their own iconic sound/image. While there was some sh*tty stuff people got away with....idk its just different now.

Times are sad and just boring now.

Yes. What concerns me is when people misuse terms like "racist", "sexist", or other "woke" labels in context in which they don't need to be used, in order to bully people. That just makes the original movement lose its value, and it makes people hate the real activist for LGBT, black or women´s rights.

Negative? No, we live in dark times. I would say that people are too aggressive and hateful these days. What I hate is that people constantly blame minority groups, the left aka "the woke" for everything when we live in a time where far right political parties are winning elections and social media is full of homo- and transphobia. A lot of people call themselves progressive but are conservative in reality. Everything is considered woke these days. I've seen way more attacks against "the woke" and cancel culture against minorities than against people who are conservative, against homophobic people etc. We live in a conservative era.

People are more aware of the problems of the world and thats ruining the mood of everyone.
In some ways is a blessing to be more aware and very important but at the same time we suffer more. We are too connected :giraffe: We are too worried about tomorrow and every circumstance

There's info overload-saturation.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Im a milenial and i remember the 90s before the arrival of social media-cellphones.....and people were more innocent and things looked more peaceful
You were livin more your life. Not the life of others. Now everything is a comparison and a rat race.
Social media algorithms are also pushing the craziest-most infuriating things to engage people with clicks and trigger things from them. Is a loop of addiction

We need some sort of offline revolution. Keep advancing tech wise but also to have some sort of disconection. More in touch with the natural ways of life.
I think we are in a strange stage of life lol.
We also need more frienship groups like kindergarten. We are too divided today. We are too alone and lonely.
We are also guided to cannibalizations by all the political factions and overlords of the planet
We need to strip ourselves from the baggage and try to talk again with no bad intentions :gaycat5: Hi. Lets be friends.

This is so true. I think we all feel overly connected and aware of everyone else's lives online but simultaneously feel very lonely and isolated offline/irl.  It feels like everyone is in their own bubble more. Universally shared social experiences are becoming increasingly rare.

Twitter is a CESSPOOL. A total doomsday scroll of negativity and groupthink mentality. No one can do anything without being criticized/dragged.

Yes. All the main video game spaces (Sims 4, Need for Speed, Final Fantasy) make me depressed. All they do is spread hate. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who loves Sims 4 / NFS Unbound / FF 16.

Yes ... well that or they are extremely crawl.

People have no sense of humour or respect these days
