celeb news 117 witnesses to testify in Shakira’s tax fraud trial starting next week

Starting next week, a total of 117 witnesses will appear in Shakira’s trial for alleged tax fraud. Their testimony will help to establish the extent to which the Colombian singer spent time in Catalonia between 2012 and 2014 when she did not pay taxes in Spain. 

The Prosecutor’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office have summoned workers who provided services to Shakira or served her at some point. For the prosecution, these witnesses offer crucial evidence that Shakira had made Spain her base of operations.

Among the witnesses are:
- Shakira’s ex-boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua, who he held positions in companies that served to channel millions of dollars in income to countries with little or no taxation
- senior executives from Sony Music and Live Nation
- Shakira’s personal chauffeur 
- worker at a beauty salon in Barcelona
- hairdresser
- hotel and restaurant workers
- representative from the luxury company Dolce & Gabanna
- organizer of a Mattel toy company event
- owner of Fernández Automobiles
- two fitness instructors
- four Zumba teachers
- neighbors from Piqué's bachelor apartment in Barcelona where the couple first settled
- neighbors from the house Shakira and Pique bought in Esplugues de Llobregat
- doorman
- gynecologists who treated her during pregnancies
- representative of the elite school where she enrolled her son
- recording studio representatives
- choreographers
- backup singers
- one of the members of the Mexican band Maná
- stylists
- photographers
- producers
- managers
- advisors

 

Shakira’s defense team has requested other witnesses:
- directors of Pies Descalzos (Shakira’s foundation)
- Shakira’s brother Antonio
- her personal cook 
- several friends from Miami 
- drummers, pianists and musicians who joined her on tour
 

Shakira claims that she traveled around the world on concert tours and that the only reason she occasionally visited Barcelona was to see her then-partner, Piqué. The prosecution does not believe her and is seeking a sentence of eight years and two months in prison, as well as payment of a fine of €23.5 million ($25.6 million).

The tax inspector in charge of the case did detective work to reconstruct her day-to-day life and prove that she spent more than half of the year in Spain, the condition for being considered a resident citizen for tax purposes.

No, she's too rich and famous for that. 

 

Worst case scenario is that she will have to give them a bunch of money. Always taking money from the Latin people. 

 

Good news is that it means that she will forced to tour a lot to make that coin

The way she took this to court and remembering an interview from last year, she seems pretty confident on winning this... which would be just the cherry on top of her mammoth of a year.

 

I am all for the rich paying their taxes, but the way the Spain government came after her I am rooting for her. It's not like she didn't pay any taxes once the kids were born and she let her career go down the drain never left her house in BCN.

 

I am not sure how these procedures go down in Spain, but hopefully she gets to serve some looks like Cardi did when she was going to court.

her first child was born in January 2013 and she started paying taxes in Spain in 2015
