Bestie, I don't agree with this at all. We knew Billie was not going to come close to her debut with HTE, but the olivies WERE SURE that GUTS was going to be her Teenage Dream and/or that she wasn't going to decline, even saying that SOUR wasn't her peak.

Guts is literally the only album of those two that was able to chart ALL its tracks in the top 40 and have a global and US #1 hit. But okay. And Guts beat SOUR in first week sales. These are all things Billie was unable to do. Yes, Olivia failed to grab more than one big hit this era. Vampire will be the only song to cross 1B from Guts. A stark decline from Sour's huge singles... Also Guts album tracks made a splash but they're having bad longevity compared to Sour. I'm not even dragging, this is factual. Billie was never as much of a hitmaker since radio has always been hesitant with her. Olivia had more to lose, and she did. 2 1

Steve Johnson Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 HTE is a good album. Can say that about the other one. 1

They're gonna end up with equal stats, but HTE might have the edge overall when all is said and done. Also BOTH fandoms got egg on their face bc neither of them were able to come close to their debut eras in terms of hitmaking. Although Olivia's hitmaking status took a harder fall. I have a feeling both of their third albums might turn it around. Huge debuts are always harder to follow up 1 1

It is extremely uneven and has lots of filler. There is no coherence between the ballads and the rock tracks. There are a few highlights but a 91 (or whatever it's at right now) is just crazy How are they not coherent? Ballad of a homeschooled girl and making the bed for example both talk about self doubt and anxiety, but the former uses a more comedic self deprecating approach while the latter is more emotional. The whole album actually does a great job at approaching all the themes in different ways sonically while still being cohesive 1
Trent W Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Both albums are okay HTE is carried by the better tracks, some are really week But I think that Billie is bigger overall than Olivia, since she has been around a lot longer too

Just trying to be objective here The hate train + weird single choices definitely took us by surprise. It's just that ATRL overreacted, claiming Billie was "over" when that was NEVER the case. Even when Billie was "canceled", she was constantly being talked about all over TikTok, had massive social media engagement, and was making headlines for her high-profile appearances like Met Gala etc. But yeah, Livies were WAY too confident thinking that Guts was going to steamroll the competition, I think they're learning their lesson now

It got higher reviews by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Independent to name a few. Also stands at a 91 on Metacritic (deservingly so) which is higher than HTE. Let's be real, when it comes to mainstream artists, critics scores now are more about the reputation of an artist rather than the actual music. I'm sure HTE would've had higher scores had it not come out at a time where she was the most hated person on the internet Edited November 14, 2023 by Billionaire 2

orange22 Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 One album has a song about the other girl on it so I’m not sure anymore
BuzzCharts Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 @unclefloprry I know you are having a difficult time with Houdini bombing in the USA, but these threads are not going to change anything. 1 4
Last Boy on Earth Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Not familiar with Olivia but it’s hard for me to understand how y’all focus on numbers when the girls release masterpieces like Happier Than Ever. Literally who the hell cares? 2
glitch Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 (edited) Say what you will about Billie but she's got her own branding and her music all sounds like hers. No one else is doing what Billie's doing apart from girls who are literally copying her. Guts is like Olivia watched a few episodes of Camp Rock, Hannah Montana and Lemonade Mouth and decided to make an album based on that Edited November 14, 2023 by glitch 1 6
