And that overhyped ‘outro’ being just a few seconds of every Tame Impala song Funnily enough, I had the opposite reaction! I thought "meh" on first listen, but with multiple listens, the song and video grew on me pretty fast.
Zoomer Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 The song starts strong but gets repetitive and stale pretty fast, just like Perfect Illusion. Just shows once again that tame impala can’t produce a pop hit for a MPG. They should stick to what they do best, “alternative music” or whatever. 1

katara Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Yall are so ignorant LOL. She never had a hit on Apple Music US coz they are only into Urban and Country and Taylor Swift. Hasn't stopped her from having a lot of gigantic hits in the US though. 1
NEX Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Stream it/buy it or she will houdini from Spotify as well

Machete Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Not shocking. Combo of Apple Music in general being far less playlist carried than Spotify + Dua being a nobody everywhere but especially extra unknown in America. 1
EdgeofTeeth Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I like Dua but she’s this generation’s Katy in the sense that her career is going to be highly dependent on her ability to score hits. Single #2 will probably be a catchier / more chart-friendly song.

Yes Dua give us pop excellence again, show these girls how to do an ERA!” bandwagon as if the song/video weren’t boring How's lethal woman doing

vuelve88 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I mean, it’s a song written and produced by Kevin Parker, the same guy that worked on “Perfect Illusion” At least he’s consistent.

krustysalt Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 It magically increased streams Tuesday on US Spotify when it had a dropped Monday all the while it is serving OUT on US Apple Music. The autoplay has kicked in! 1

All the other non-Urban/Country/Taylor songs in the US Spotify Top 30 (Greedy, Agora Hills, Vampire) are top 50 on US AM so how is it ignorant for us to expect MPG Dua Lipa's lead single to still be in the top 200 after half a week 3

But this could be a sign that her career is Katy Perry'd ,like once radio/tiktok is tired of her then she'll just disappear That is their fate. I agree

It only worked in Barbie because the whole idea is that it was supposed to be a vapid dance song to add to the commentary of the Barbie’s being oblivious to their depressing reality. Dua needs to work on a sound that matches the vibe of today. Her disco revival worked in 2020 because people weren’t tired, had energy and were actually looking to consume any form of escapism. She needs lyrical depth and to make social commentary. Fun pop songs no longer have a place in the market (unless your Tay Tay and your cult will eat up anything) This. "Houdini" is not a bad song, but it's more of the same old style Dua has been serving. She needs something fresh. I don't think she has a solid fanbase either, she relies more on a heavy promotion rather than on fans to carry her songs. 1
UnusualBoy Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 The song may catch up eventually but it's off to a rough start tbh.
Kodak Energy Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) Dua always does this, she’s usually weak on AM, but it’s top ten on global Spotify where she’s strong. Radio and playlisting will keep slowly building and it’ll climb back up in January and stay for ages. People always count her out and she always proves them wrong. Credit Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 we failed to catch it and it went... houdini
Lose My Breath Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I mean it isn't unusual for a pop song to do well on Spotify and be MIA on Apple... That's kind of typical
MonsterTown Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 i didn't like her new hair and i didn't even listen to the song yet looks like some people just don't care about her, the song is tanking like for real real. she has to do a double release or some songs till one stick to the gp.
