Cardigan streams are good seeing as it was not a hit outside USA at the time and rain on me had amazing WW peaks. Both songs won. the problem is the OP is a Katy Stan and he knows she won’t have a hit ever again

I’m neither a “fan” of Taylor or Gaga, despite liking several songs in their respective catalogues, but, not surprised by this thread. Clearly, Taylor is having an astronomical resurgence in terms of her discography by a newer generation who believes her music is more in depth than it actually is. Thanks to TikTok and social media in general, I think Swifties like to actively be a part in listening to her music, decoding it, engaging in it with fellow peers online and in real life— basically, living and breathing it. Taylor is the only artist in my lifetime that I can recall being able to have a great grasp on her fanbase and be able to make them ALL feel included as if they’re along for the ride. Not only that, I think the GP favors her more so now than ever with her most recent tour, relationship, re-recordings, etc.

Good for Taylor, but, long story short — not surprised. Taylor’s entire discography is receiving millions of streams daily; even album cuts. So, “cardigan” surpassing “Rain On Me” is not a surprise. In a sense, “Rain On Me” came and went, whereas “cardigan” has resurgences due to The Eras Tour, not being in the concert film and ultimately being a part of her AOTY-winning album, folklore

Surprised? Yes, because Rain on Me was being hailed as a massive pop song when it came out particularly since Ariana was the MPG of that period. It fizzled though, even Stuck With You is generating more streams.

 

Also I never really expected Cardigan to get to 1B and overtake ROM, because of how indie and alternative it is. But hey, a great song will always triumph.

no. while taylor is actively showing love and promoting her discography, farmer grande has torn it down (her saying she hates touch it and others 💀) and only acknowledges anniversaries, and bc her label prob makes her. no comment on ga.
