What should Adele do to sell 1M first week again?

Recommended Posts

Discuss girls. 30 did 840k whilst 25 did 3.4M, what does it take for Adele to sell over 1M albums in its first week again? And do you think Adele just experienced a lil sprinke of 4th curse with 30 and able to revive to her 25-21 highs?

And yet EOM was by far 30 biggest success and it's the closest track to her past output.

It was obviously the biggest success from that album because it was her first single in 6 years so there was always going to be massive hype no matter what

Change genres for once, please. All her albums sound the same. You could say that 30 is a re-recording of 25 and so on…:suburban:

If she doesn’t do that, I predict A5 to debut with less than 174k

it should be easy. she did 840k off of genuine demand for her music without any fraudulent tactics. all she has to do to push past the 1m mark is debut some desperation and release 10 variants. keeping it off of streaming first week could additionally help seal the deal

edit: was not shading anybody with this but the shoe has fit a certain someone and upset their fans i see

Release a song that isn't a ballad.

Probably not take another 6 year break.

A strong second single ready with the album could’ve made a difference with 30. They got it super right with Easy on Me, but once the album was out they didn’t have a puncher second song to take over… the album died in streaming right during its first week. I have a feeling that if she had performed and pushed (a shorter version of) To Be Loved 30 would’ve had a better run (but still wouldn’t touch 21 or 25). Some of the lenghts didn’t make much of 30 as radio-friendly as her previous singles were.

These days I don’t even think she has enough hype to push an Easy on Me-sized hit again, but she will still have a great career for years

30 not opening with 25's 3.4 million isn't really indicative of a big decline, it's just that 25's opening was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of freak occurrence due to the post-21 hype, and is unlikely to be matched again by any other artist let alone Adele herself. 840k in this day and age is still a very good opening number, especially when she didn't do much promo, it shows that Adele still can pull huge numbers and 1M isn't out of the ballpark. She probably would really have to want it though, or be releasing on the back of a high-profile event, and I don't think she cares much about those kind of stats happening again, she's been there and done that.
