I think Houdini is a better lead (by far) than FN would've been. FN (even by its lyrics) clearly sounds like an introduction and is not as immersive as Houdini looks like it is. FN is good, but it's way less commercial, in my opinion.

While I’m not certain that this will be a mega smash hit, the only thing that has me saying that is the Artpop’d production during the verses and the different structure of the song. 

 

With a radio edit though, the latter isn’t a problem at all and the former isn’t really THAT big of a deal. As usual, Dua managed to take intricate production and a different approach to easily accessible pop music and made it a fun bop with layers to it. She EXCELS at that, and it’s something we haven’t seen in a very, very long time

This was never going to be her Prism era, she’s simply not that basic  Imagine a Roar-esque lead to follow up FN, I’m sick at the thought.
