it's pretty clear they did not plan any perfomances for this song because they simply didn't want to, weirdly. "Emulating FN era" done wrong...

If they don't pick up their promo game by NYE then it must mean they gave up on it or never planned to push the song and it was meant as a tease.

 

There must be more to the last minute change from TS to Houdini and to drop it 2 weeks later than we know. I think they changed plans and wanted to start the DL3 era by 2024 but because they had already started to tease they coulodn't just back off and so they gave us Houdini to hold us over until the "real" lead comes in 2024. This is pure speculation though. Since we have nothing better to do in this thread might as well go full delulu

I think this is the real lead. She dyed her hair, did a radio tour, and went on a bunch of talk shows to talk about Houdini.

This era is so weird. I have so many thoughts.

 

The entirety of the Future Nostalgia era was a masterclass but everything here feels like an afterthought in regard to marketing. Catch me or I go indeed.

 

Even the album theme / title: Future Nostalgia she was hinting from the get-go and it was such a good album title and so exciting. With this one, we know that the theme is psychedelia in some way but everything feels so dragged out, as well as Houdini not really sounding that psychedelic to my ears.

 

I'll be listening to her in the future nonetheless but in terms of keeping the fans engaged it's a bit of a misfire so far in my view.

none of this means that they planned to drop Houdini as the lead from the start. In fact we have multiple insiders saying they switched leads last minute and tbh it's pretty clear (esp with the $3 budget for the music video). The radio/talk show interviews were likely booked weeks in advance and would be about the other song if she dropped it instead of Houdini

I ran into her leaving a restaurant in NYC and blabbered out "Houdini is a ******* smash, can I say hi"...she is so stunning and was SO NICE, talked to me for a full 2 mins even though she was doing a million things in the city.  Anyway, I have been streaming nonstop to repay my debt to her now that I have recovered from the shock (mostly).
