What does Beyoncé need to do to debut with 1m+?

She came very close to it with ST without any streaming support (though it was a smaller chunk of the total sales back then), without notice, without promo, without physical sales, without interviews/magazine covers, without preorder, without a lead single, without a full tracking week and remaining relatively silent throughout the week of release.

It's highly possible she could have gotten over 1 million copies in a week if she had adjusted even just a few of these things. Even perhaps leading with Drunk in Love a week prior, opening album pre-order and then still surprise releasing the album along with physical copies (which, assuming it didn't leak, probably would have had a similar effect since no one at that time would even have suspected a surprise drop).

She can’t. Never could, never will. The quality just isn’t there.

And those people saying she can’t because she’s black are disgusting and need banning

Well… firstly she needs to get rid of those 20+ co-writers on songs :cm:

No that's okay. She needs not to tell she wrote it though.

Beyoncé is the most critically acclaimed artist of today and the most awarded of her generation and will likely end her career as the most awarded ever as she’s already the top winner at several award shows. Maybe your comment about quality was about your fave gaga and you got them confused? :dancehall:

Make music that appeals to the biggest common denominator? What else? What else could y’all have been discussing for 7 pages?

As if quality is the determining factor here, and AS IF Beyoncé is an artist who lacks quality in her music, come on.

Anyway.

She definitely could have, if not now then for ST. As I mentioned before, she had so many different things that blocked the accumulation of sales at the time.

In ST's first ten days of sales it sold 991,000 in the US, literally 9K shy of 1,000,000, and I know that's ten days not seven, but keeping in mind that there was absolutely ZERO physical sales in that number, ZERO streaming as well as ZERO promo, it's not far fetched in the slightest to think that had certain elements been tweaked about the rollout, that she could have achieved 1M within a week.

For example, even just releasing a lead single a few weeks prior in order for it to build momentum and gain popularity (which we know Drunk in Love did) could have a decent amount of sales. Even if it only sold 90,0000 singles during release week, that would be 9K sales. However, generally popular songs in 2013 were selling much more. In December 2013, months after it had already been a #1, Wrecking Ball sold 477,000. Back when Dark Horse was a promo single (no radio, no video) it sold 194,000 copies in October 2013. Christina's version of Say Something more than tripled the original and sold 189,000 upon release and went on to sell more in a week, and at the time Christina was no sales darling.

But all this is to say she had a legitimate chance to do it, but due to the factors of the release, she really did squash a lot of potential to achieve it. And still, it really doesn't matter because whether or not it sold a million doesn't matter in the slightest to its legacy.

She can't. And that's fine.

I mean that wasn't easy for black artists, I think only Whitney, MJ, 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne had done 1 milli a week so it's not as easy as you think if you're poc.

This, and the chances are lower when you bring it down to just black women... Whitney is the only one who sold 1M in a week... and yet it wasn't her debut one, and it was in way a better sales climate

What's not basic about Beyoncé sampling an entire song or recording an already finished demo?
