PinkLamborghini Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 A lot of Hikaru Utada albums outdo it for me... Most recently Bad Mode. 1 2

brooklyndaddy Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Plenty of non-pop albums. However, this is by far the best big pop act album post-1990 in my opinion.
Antikythera Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 (edited) I do really have a spiritual connection to this Utada album since it was released, it was always my favorite. A lot of people nowadays make fun of her lyrics, but for me she has the most deep and fun lyrics. "You make me want to be a man" is 21st century version of "Running up that hill". "Kremlin Dusk" is pure poetry. "Wander 'Bout" is pure joy and a Timbaland track without being the usual Timbaland stuff. "Exodus 04" has that deep spiritual narrative. I get the same feeling that I got from Ray of Light, but they are not the same thing. Ray of Light is a bit preachy at times, like Madonna had all the answers, or she thought too, I guess she was a bit fanatic at that time when it came to her spirituality. Utada is more like "I don't have the answers, I'm just living this life in a very raw way". Her spirituality is raw, and it fails then picks up again. Mandy Moore - In My Pocket This album was a flop and it ended Mandy's popstar carreer. I really think they were trying to make a teen version of Ray of Light, so there is a lot in here I like. A lot of music with trip-hop influence with "asian" instruments and with buddhist concepts. The title track "In My Pocket" has a whole philosophical meaning, it is a unique production for that time especially for a pop girl. "Saturate Me" goes more into the spiritual believes. "It only took a minute" talks about the concept of time. "One sided love" is a full agressive asian influenced sound about loving urself first. The album has some more commercial tracks that are nice, like "Crush" and "Cry". It is worth a listen! Edited November 3, 2023 by Antikythera 1 1

However, in my opinion these albums surpassed or are on par in terms of quality, songwriting, production. Girl I was gonna drag you for filth but you do have some nice albums in here so I'll let it slide

Also, highly dubious of a pop stan not hearing of RoL since multiple music releases since the album came out cite it as a reference, and is considered one of the most influential pop albums ever. Don't even waste your time, sis. It's a troll, always pushing the "I never knew of that Madonna work until I joined atrl". It's boring and not credible at this point 2

This is a pop music forum, pop music is considered the worst, lowest type of musix by people who really understand music. Be courageous to have an open mind about stuff that flopped. I know many of the people here dont have strong personalities to like anything out of charts or metacritic. Be brave for once! 1

Oh dont worry honey,im more than brave musically wise, but stating that a Mandy Moore album could challenge ROL is straight up delusion and ignorance
