So, why did we need 327 threads about Mariah being a flop over the past 20 years? 

 

People literally said that J.LO was a bigger music artist than Mariah Carey. 

 

People literally said that Mariah was unknown outside New York state and Los Angeles metropolitan area. Like?

 

A fad, they said... a Christmas related fad, they screamed from the top of their lungs, shifting their larynx. 

 

Impactless, flop, local, unknown that's what they wrote on their arms, with black markers before running over a MIMI cassette with their bicycles. 

 

I am confused now? Should I trust Guinness? Or is XY from ATRL more correct on this issue?

Oh no reason shady. I understand the methodology now. I just know in the lists I’ve seen Celine was right behind Madonna in pure sales past Mariah and Whitney so I was curious.

But Whitney & Celine totals ALSO include  single sales, vhs tapes etc are in their record sales as well. One era benefited from albums more than physical singles and another era benefited more with digital sales than physical. it’s just that simple.

Madonna 146m pure albums sales + 64m other LP + 75m physical single + 42m digital single = 327 million

Rihanna: 33m pure albums sales + 1.2m other LP + 3.6m physical single + 257m digital single = 295 million 

Mariah: 116m pure albums sales + 31.2m other LP + 37m physical single + 50m digital single = 234.2 million 

Taylor: 56.5m pure albums sales + 10.3m other LP + 0.32m physical single + 162m digital single = 229.1 million 

Beyonce: 37m pure albums sales + 6m other LP + 4m physical single + 164m digital single = 211 million

So they were dragging Chartmasters... only for it to be totally on par with the official list?

As Guinness clearly states, this list is highest selling female artists in pure sales. She is still below the likes of Mariah, Taylor, Celine etc. when it comes to consumption
