I could go off on my soapbox on this but i don’t have the energy. I don’t know if this country will ever truly be ready to have that cultural conversation.

I don’t think that people realize that if the US government wanted to take out random civilians, they’d employ drone tactics like they do with Middle Eastern weddings and hospitals. National Guard troops would never have to set foot in someone’s house when they could immolate it with an air strike without even a moment’s notice. Obama’s extrajudicial murders of an American citizen accused of being a terrorism and his 16 year-old son (both occurring in Yemen which we weren’t even at war with) is proof of what the government could have done to MAGA cultists who participated in Jan 6 if they actually wanted to

An AR-15 would do nothing to save them from any of that because Waco standoffs would just never happen in the current year.

Someone I went to summer camp with was at the restaurant and is currently in the hospital, this is devastating and everyone is super tense right now. Most local businesses are closed until at least tomorrow. I wish this could lead to actual gun restrictions in this state, but I feel naive even thinking that, there are so many gun obsessed hicks here it’ll never happen

Terrible, awful; And these types of radicalized people are everywhere. This is why I've become a f***ing hermit-- this country takes the joy out of life before you even get a chance to experience it.

Sandy Hook, Parkland, and Uvalde led to no meaningful change. Nothing will happen.

Edit: That said, don't give in to despair, but don't waste your hope on solutions coming from lawmakers either. They genuinely do not care.

@ClashAndBurn is right, but in the meantime and for what’s it’s worth, stay strong. What’s usually said in these situations I’m sick of, so I’ll leave it there.

@BeenTheShit NY Post is reporting per police scanners that the suspect has crossed into Massachusetts via Interstate 93, though unconfirmed.

He's former military, so he has survival skills that other mass shooters don't have. It'll be much harder to track him down than most.

I don't even know what to say at this point besides that I not only feel deep sadness and hopelessness as an American in regards to gun violence currently, but I actually feel deeply ashamed that our circus show we call our current American government has completely let mass shootings become normalized to us. Americans should be outraged and fully admitting to themselves that our government has totally failed all of us on this issue at this point. I should not be this numb and used to this news popping up anymore.

I feel so horrible for all of these victims and their families and friends.  It is just so senseless and absolutely evil.  This is NOT okay.

Yet so many people use tragedies like this to support their pro-gun arguments. I for one advocate for the removal of gun ownership, people are so trigger happy these days it's sad, scary, and irresponsible of our government.

Yikes. I can only hope he’s out of ammo then

I’m sure he’s been planning and strategizing for a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes days to apprehend him

unfortunately you and @Espresso are definitely right. Decades of this happening and the concept of a background check is considered controversial?? Americans are truly some of the most selfish people out there. It’s just that much more depressing finding out that people I know and people my friends know we’re shot and killed and our local government will still do nothing to stop it

I live here in Maine and it’s all anyone has talked about today. It’s crazy he hasn’t been found yet. So many places have closed for the day. Hopefully they find him soon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they find him dead somewhere. Taking the easy way out

Maine? Isn't that state fairly liberal and against guns?

They should pass laws in that state asap if they can. or they can't because it had to be nationwide? can someone from the US educate me?

from 14:16 onwards there is a good summary of this issue and maybe a good way to answer your question, this video was the first time I had seen someone addressing this subject from a sociological perspective

This was a good watch :clap3: surprised he didn’t include American psycho as well
